After a long period of testing, the new one finally arrives multi device version of the most used messaging app: from today we can use whatsapp web even without a smartphone connected to the network.
Multi-device WhatsApp: we can send messages even without a smartphone
Since last September it was a beta feature, which many users (including this writer) have used multiple times from the browser. But from today finally Multi-device WhatsApp is a reality: your smartphone no longer needs to be connected to send messages, GIFs, photos and videos.
In fact, the previous version of WhatsApp Web is thereimitated acting as a “mirror” of your smartphone. But it was only the mobile device that actually sent the messages to other people. In this way, the Meta app can ensure end-to-end encryption. But today he found the solution to keep conversations safe by increasing the convenience of sending messages via your PC, Mac or tablet.
Your messages on all devices
Until a few days ago, the browser version of WhatsApp needed a connected smartphone to rely on. If our phone was offline, we couldn’t see new messages on our computer. Now instead, as Meta explains to users that they try to access from their PC: “You can now send and receive messages without your phone being connected to the Internet. Use WhatsApp on up to 4 devices and 1 phone at the same time “.
Users who were already using the new beta version will not notice any particular changes: simply, the stable version should ensure fewer connection and upload problems. Those who have not yet tried WhatsApp’s multi-device function can try the fastest connection. Both, however, need to reconnect the smartphone.
How to activate WhatsApp multi device
Connecting your smartphone becomes really simple:
- Go to WhatsApp Web in yours browser on the computer
- From the main screen of WhatsApp on your smartphone (where you can find all the groups and conversations), click on the dots at the top right of the Settings.
- Select Connected Devices
- Frame the QR Code sul browser PC
Done! Your browser now acts as an independent device. You can try to see if it works by putting the smartphone in aero mode and sending a message. Some users may not have received the update yet – you just have to wait for WhatsApp to update for you too.
The multi-device version of WhatsApp still has some limitations compared to those of some competitors, especially Telegram. The most significant, as WhatsApp itself points out, is that this version runs on up to four devices but only one smartphone. Those who use multiple phones (perhaps the personal one and the one for work), will be able to remain connected to only one mobile device with their account.
But WhatsApp is working to securely implement this feature as well. Although, considering that this first version of multi-device WhatsApp has remained in beta for eight months, does not seem to be in any hurry to launch these novelties. Instead, he prefers to make sure the multi-device is as secure as possible by protecting conversations.
