After two weeks of fundraising, Epic Games announces that thanks to Fortnite, 144 million dollars will be donated to various organizations committed to providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
Fortnite: 114 million dollars raised for Ukraine
Through the purchase of bundles and items on Fortnitethe players helped to collect well 144 million dollars, which will be donated to various organizations providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine. The proceeds were raised within two weeks, from March 20 to April 3. At launch, Microsoft also joined Epic, allocating the net proceeds of all sales of the game’s content on the Microsoft Store to humanitarian organizations.
Epic Games has made it known that the money will go to five organizations: UNICEF; ONU World Food Program; UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency); Direct Relief, (a non-governmental organization which claims to have deployed nearly 200 tons of medical aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russian war); World Central Kitchen, the food aid organization of chef José Andrés.
“Our heartfelt thanks to all those who have joined us in supporting humanitarian efforts for people affected by the war in Ukraine”, reads a tweet by Epic posted a few hours ago.
The fundraiser included all in-game purchases using real money, including V-Buck packs, Battle Passes and various cosmetic items. All purchases made using the game currency (V-Buck) accumulated for free through the missions are excluded from the initiative. Furthermore, the initiative did not alter the creators’ earnings, being managed separately.
