Samsung could make an exclusive processor for its smartphones Galaxysimilar to the Tensor chip from the series Google Pixel 6. Roh Tae-moon, aka TM Roh, the president of the Korean firm’s mobile business, revealed the plans at a meeting last month. Roh hinted that the company will make a unique processor for the Galaxy.
Samsung: an exclusive processor for the Galaxy coming?
Smartphones and processors are manufactured by two different Samsung business divisions, MX and LSI respectively. Although they are part of the same manufacturing core, the two divisions have a buy-sell relationship between them. As a result, Samsung LSI makes chipsets with Android smartphones in mind, not Galaxy smartphones specifically.
It is currently unclear whether Samsung LSI will make the processors Galaxy exclusive or if Samsung MX will turn to some other brand. The Korean brand’s chip manufacturing technology has historically always been inferior to that of TSMC. Just to give an example, MediaTek’s Dimesity 9000, produced by TSMC, amazed us in terms of both performance and energy efficiency just this year.
If Samsung MX wants its exclusive processors dedicated to Galaxy smartphones to be the best on the market, it may have to do without its sister company Samsung LSI. In any case, to be sure we will have to wait a few more days, when further news on the matter should arrive.
