AMD’s 16-core Ryzen 7000 CPU reaches 5.5 GHz on several threads in the game demo
In a recent live stream, the director of the AMD’s technical marketing, Robert Hallockdiscussed all the details on the chip Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) that the chip maker used in a recent one game demo of the Computex 2022.
According to Hallock, the processor Zen 4 a 16 corewhich should be the Ryzen 9 7950Xoperated at the maximum boost clock speed of 5,5 GHz on different threads without overclocking or sub-ambient heatsinks.
The chip worked completely as standard and boosted up to 5.5 GHz naturally.
AMD: ran a game demo at Computex 2022
To quickly recap, AMD ran a game demo of a 16-core Ryzen 7000 CPU prototype at the end of his presentation at Computex 2022.
The chip ran Ghostwire: Toyko smoothly, a recently released title, and easily boosted to 5.5 GHz. However, at the moment, AMD hasn’t revealed any details about the test system so far.
But thankfully, we now know that 5.5 GHz will be a more realistic clock speed target for Ryzen 7000 processors. Additionally, Hallock confirms that AMD did not use strange scams with the Zen 4 demo.
Instead, the test bed consisted of a motherboard AMD AM5 reference and a liquid heatsink all-in-one Asetek da 280 mm consumer range.
Hallock’s words
Hallock reported that the prototype Ryzen 7000 dated back to April and the chip at 16 core da 5,5 GHz with its configuration “out-of-the-boxWith no overclocking involved.
The processor specifically fluctuated between 5,2 GHz e 5,5 GHz in Ghostwire: Tokyo . This is great news for the Ryzen 7000; AMD is very confident in the ability of Zen 4 to operate well above 5 GHz without further overclocking. However, the actual clock rate increase will depend on the game and application.
The prey AM5 is compatible with i AM4 heatsinks. Therefore, AMD owners don’t have to invest in a new cooling solution.
However, with AM5, AMD has increased the socket power (PPT) to 170 Wwhere it was previously 142 W su AM4. Therefore, the Zen 4 chips are expected to max out at 125 Wwhich would only represent an increase of 20 W compared to SKU Zen 3 105 W by AMD existing, such as Ryzen 9 5950X o Ryzen 7 5800X .
While AMD recently raised the curtain on Zen 4the processors of next generation they won’t debut until this fall.
