WhatsApp expands reactions to messages

Unlike Telegram, the WhatsApp App is a bit slower in adding new features. In any case, the platform has worked slowly but steadily to improve the experience for its users, adding the ability to send files up to 2GB in size or to add up to 512 participants to a group. In May of this year, the App also added the option of reactions to messages. And now it’s looking to expand the emojis available to users, so far limited to six.

WhatsApp: App increases the options for reactions to messages

As revealed by WABeta Info, the WhatsApp App is working to allow users to use any emoji to react to messages. The latest beta version of WhatsApp (v2.22.15.6 or 2.22.15.7) should show a new + icon within the reaction menu. By tapping it, users will be able to choose one of the hundreds of emojis available on their device. At the moment, the option is only available to a small group of beta testers, so don’t worry if you’re not one of the lucky ones who can use it yet.

Beyond this, it is interesting to note that Telegram offers 17 different emojis for reactions, with the possibility of unlocking new ones by subscribing to the Premium version. This means that, once the possibility of using any emoji is made available, the WhatsApp App will find itself one step ahead of its competitor. Indeed, the platform does not seem to be satisfied with this only update, and plans the possibility of adding more new functions. Apparently, in the future there will be the ability to see a user’s reactions to photos or videos in an album, without having to open it. For now, in fact, we can only see the emoji and the user it belongs to. But things could take a different turn in the future, let’s not forget that.
