Xiaomi announces the new 12S series, with an exceptional camera designed with Leica
The one presented today by Xiaomi is not just a new series of smartphones. It’s a new step in the world of mobile photography. In fact Xiaomi has worked from the beginning alongside Leica to develop smartphones that exceed the limits of the imageg.
In particular, the top model Xiaomi 12S Ultra uses uses a 8P aspherical lens, with an anti-glare coating and an ultra-red filter to provide shots on the level of reflex or mirrorless. In addition, the whole series uses the technology that the two companies have collaborated to show two profiles: the Leica Authentic Look and the Leica Vibrant Look, to adapt to the aesthetic tastes of all users.
Camera at the top
The sensor on Xiaomi 12S Ultra is a 1 ″ Sony IMX989, with Quad-Bayer pixel array, each pixel 1.6 microns wide. This allows it to be excellent in photographs, even in low light. It also offers HyperOIS to improve stability and has a screen photo sensor capable of supporting the Dolby Vision HDR, both in recording and playback.
Xiaomi 12S e Xiaomi 12 Pro instead they use sensor IMX707 di Sony, a 1/1,28″. If the Ultra model represents the pinnacle of mobile photography, these two models remain above the rest of the category with the support of Xiaomi AI Image Solution and Xiaomi ProFocus.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra also uses a chip Xiaomi Surge P1 pfor fast charging (67W wired, 50W wireless and 10W reverse) as well as a chip G1 for managing the 4,860mAh battery. The Pro version has a record 120W recharge (only one cell at 4,600mAh).
Everyone uses the chip Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which should provide 10% better performance than the current top of the range. Ultra and Pro use a screen 6.73-inch AMOLED with AdaptiveSync Pro 1-120Hz, while the ‘base’ model measures 6.28 ″ diagonal.
Prices and availability
At the moment, Xiaomi has only announced Chinese prices. Model Xiaomi 12S Ultra starts at RMA 5,999 (858,80 euro) in the 8 + 256GB version, with only the top version (12 + 512GB) that exceeds one thousand euros (6999 RMB, 1001,95 euro).
The basic model starts from 572,48 eurowhile the Pro one gives 715,64. But as always, prices will increase in Italy, once the change has been made and taxes have been added: we will keep you updated when we have precise figures and an official date.
