Also in 2022 LG continues to confirm itself as the benchmark for OLED screens. This year’s new TV line ensures absolute picture quality and indeed elevates it, introducing new features and also improving the software. And during the 42-inch LG OLED evo C2 review we could see all this craftsmanship in small size. A really great product for those with less space and also for everyone gamers who want a great value monitor. But the technology of this level pays for itself: this is not a TV for everyone. We will help you understand if the 42 ″ LG OLED evo C2 is for you in this review.
Our review of the 42-inch LG OLED evo C2
When friends and relatives ask us for advice on which TV to choose, the first thing we say is: take a good look at how much space you have available and get the largest television possible. A large panel helps you immerse yourself in movies and series better, and screen technology has come so far that the need to calculate the perfect distance to the TV comes a little less.
Ma Small to medium-sized TVs still have a place in many homes. Maybe as a bedroom screen, or for those who have a furniture arrangement that does not have enough free square centimeters. And then there are gamers, who in many cases prefer a TV to a monitor to focus on image quality even at the expense of some function. 42-inch LG OLED C2 aims to satisfy all these cases.
Something you can already notice by opening the packaging e mounting the side feet. All the rest of the line has central stands, with a greater scenic effect. But this solution allows gamers to run the cables under the TV own console, giving you more options for space management. Even if the simple white of the supports does not look bad even in the living room.
In this review we have therefore tested 42 ″ LG OLED evo C2 with this double mentalityputting us in the shoes of both those who want to watch a movie and those who want to complete missions and collect rewards online.
Attractive design and attention to materials
When we opened the packaging of this TV, we were impressed by LG’s choice to use the white plastic (recovered from ocean plastics for greater sustainability) on the back. A smart choice: after all, once positioned we no longer look at the back of the screen. And indeed white helps more easily to find the doors on the side.
The construction is also lighter but very resistant, with a really optimal constructive solidity. In the package you will also find plates and clamps to completely manage the cables without really leaving anything to chance.
The external frame instead it is in metal and extremely elegant. Almost a point of detachment between the back, more functional, it is spectacular OLED evo davant screenc. The bezels are very thin (7mm) and the impression of having a premium quality TV in front of it remains.
I feet in white plastic they mount quite easily and support the TV very well, which does not ‘wobble’ even when stressed. The choice of side feet instead of a central rod helps gamers. But if at first we thought it was not the most elegant solution for the living room, over time we became convinced that the white attracts less attention and leaves room for the display, true protagonist. It remains a choice that not everyone will find aesthetically at the top. But they too will have to change their minds once the TV is turned on.
42 ″ LG OLED evo C2 review: image quality
But if design plays its part, the reason why you can spend more on a TV is image quality. And in this department LG does not disappoint, even in 2022. OLED technology ensures a infinite contrast, due to the very nature of the technology. Since there is no backlight, blacks are absolute and i colors shine superbly. Looking at some videos on YouTube designed specifically to test the quality of this technology, we see perfect colors in the middle of a ‘off’ screen when it is time to make black. Movies on Netflix and Disney + are exactly how the directors thought them.
The brightness in ‘standard’ mode is not very high, but by activating HDR the situation improves significantly. You will have no problem watching TV and gaming during the day, even in a brightly lit room like the living room where we tested. Though this TV gives the best of itself with the lights off, there is no doubt.
The viewing angles they are practically perfect, with the image remaining consistent even if looking from the side or from above. Color consistency and accuracy are optimal. He also convinced us a lot management reflections: we took this photograph with a directly lit French door behind us and the result is definitely above expectations.
This TV also has a refresh rate da 120Hz, which is even exaggerated for watching movies and videos that are usually recorded at lower frequencies. But for the gaming it is really useful, thanks also to the HDMI 2.1 ports for the new generation consoles (the response time of the screen is from a gaming monitor, really excellent). The refresh rate is variableso as to avoid wasting energy when watching a movie instead.
But if from a technical point of view it convinced us in every point, it is more difficult for us to explain in words the visual impact that this TV has when you watch a movie in 4K. The perfect definition, the enveloping colors. In 2022, we don’t think there is a better way to watch TV at home. Maybe just by buying the larger version of this panel.
webOS and smart functionality
As always, LG has equipped its smart TVs with webOS, the proprietary operating system that has many advantages but that not necessarily everyone will like. Especially because he wants to do a lot: On the Home screen it shows the trending apps, movies and series, the hub for the smart home, the app to use Alexa on the TV and receive suggestions, settings on inputs and connected devices. We had fun sifting through all the various options in this LG OLED evo C2 42 ″ review, but perhaps some users will find too ‘full’ this screen.
But all the features go great. The apps are fast, the smart home functions are intuitive, the management of external devices (even via Bluetooth) really simple. It’s one of the best TV operating systems out there, aided by the rapid as well α9 Gen5 processor with AI. Which by the way also improves audio and video in an evident way.
Really amazing then the section Game Optimizationwhich allows you to choose between different presets based on the game you want to try and allows di adjust every little detail of the playback really with one click. And it appears automatically when you connect or log in your PlayStation, Xbox or any other console / PC you want to connect.
We also really like the way it allows us to show ourselves works of art when the screen is in standby, to decorate the living room even when you are not watching TV.
Streaming, gaming: a TV capable of everything
Navigation using the remote control is also very accurate, which has all the options you need at your fingertips, as well as buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Rakuten TV and also for the two voice assistants: Google Assistant e Alexa.
But our favorite feature is the ability to use the remote control as a mouse, by moving your hand towards the screen or by using the cursor and arrows. You can quickly and intuitively switch to the navigation mode of your choice. And it also makes cumbersome procedures like entering passwords to access streaming services a breeze.
Streaming is as easy as using the app than doing the casting from your smartphone. Everything is very simple and the quality of the images takes your breath away. What more could you want?
Gamers will also be thrilled with these TVs. Not just for the Game Optimizer we told you about, but in general for the performance of this TV. The response time is practically immediate. There are even Auto-Low Latency Mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR), Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD FreeSync, that you can exploit through the four porte HDMI 2.1 a 120Hz.
The only note is that the audio also Dolby Atmos is not roboanthe come i models larger of line C2. It remains equally well managed in the channels, but to fully enjoy it we advise you to activate the mode AI-Audio, which uses artificial intelligence to improve audio rendering. However, we are talking about an above average quality compared to other TVs of this size, just not as excellent as the video part. If you get the chance, we recommend one soundbar dedicated to have a truly complete experience.
Entrances and other technical equipment
Just to make sure you don’t get the wrong TV, we warn you that the Display Port is missing: if you are looking for a monitor for your computer, know that you will connect it with the HDMI ports. On the positive side, the inputs are many and complete:
- 4 HDMI 2.1
- 3 USB port
- Ingresso LAN
- Headphone output
- Optical digital audio output
- Input for Antenna and satellite
There is also no lack of a strong signal Bluetooth (5.0) e Wi-Fi. In short: all the connectivity you can expect from a top-of-the-range TV in 2022.
