In promoting the marketing of the new Xbox Series X and Series S Microsoft had widely emphasized the energy saving modes, which compared to the “old” Xbox One allowed significantly lower power consumption. Apparently the company seems to want to continue in that direction which, given the current global situation, could be convenient for many users.
A recent survey proposed to members of the Xbox Insider program (via Windows Central) asked users for their opinion on some game possibilities. In particular, Windows asked if the players were interested in ways that provide for energy savings (and therefore energy bills) at the expense of a lower quality in the graphics resolution of the games. The survey also asked users if they preferred the definition “energy saving” or “ecological saving”.
What a new power saving mode means on Xbox
The lower quality of the games would result in a drop in graphics resolution and frame rate. Of course, these kinds of surveys don’t necessarily indicate that this kind of functionality will become a final product. However, they give us an idea of how Microsoft is working to solve what is becoming a global problem, both for an environmental discourse and for the increasingly unsustainable energy costs.
In the survey, Microsoft questioned users about their shopping habits, asking if and how these features could affect player spending.
Meanwhile, just last week, Xbox made it known that over 20 million players have used the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
