Today Sony has confirmed the partnership with Square Enix to guarantee the exclusivity of Final Fantasy XVI on PlayStation 5. Exclusive but not exactly that exclusive. Wordplay necessary to explain the intricate situation. The highly anticipated new chapter of FF will in fact PS5 absolute prerogative only for the first six monthsafter which it will also reach the “competition”, on PC and Xbox Series X | S.
Taking into account that the release of Final Fantasy XVI is waiting for summer 2023console players from the big X and PC will be able to play it by the end of the year (or at the latest by the beginning of 2024).
Final Fantasy XVI is the demonstration that “the exclusives of the past no longer exist”
First announced in 2020, Final Fantasy XVI will be released for new-gen consoles only. The six-month exclusive will therefore only be for PlayStation 5. On the official PlayStation website, at the game card, you can read “Not available on other consoles for a limited time”. Wording that then confirms that the title will also be available on Xbox Series S and X and on PC.
Meanwhile, awaiting the official release scheduled for the summer of 2023, Square Enix Ltd. has recently released a new trailer for the game, which reveals several new features of the highly anticipated sixteenth chapter of the iconic franchise. The video, called Ambition, shows us the Kingdom of Valisthea and its inhabitants. These will be part of the rich cast of characters that the player will meet during his magical journey. The trailer also offers us a first look at the Dominants, men and women with a terrible evocative power.
