Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever, a tribute to Chadwick Boseman

Despite the frenzied start of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as we highlight in this review, its structure, although well crafted, is a clear and respectful homage to the memory of the prematurely deceased actor, Chadwick Boseman.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been released in theaters, and we at tuttotek cannot fail to bring you his review. What immediately catches the eye is that although the plot and construction of the film are simple, intuitive and linear, the duration of two and forty hours is excessive precisely for these characteristics, but understandable for the aforementioned intent.

The plot | Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever, a tribute to Chadwick Boseman

The beginning, very excited, does not refer to anything of what we had left in the previous film, but we find the Wakandians and, above all, Princess Shuri alarmed, I took on an emergency situation involving King T’Challa.

The outcome of their efforts, however, will not reflect the longed-for hopes; after that there is the change of shot on the royal family and the Wakandan people sorry for the pain of losswhich emphasizes the pain sensation felt by the characters.

In addition to mourning, the political and economic pressures from world statesfor sharing the supplies of the precious metal, unique in the region, Vibranium, which bring further stress on the shoulders of the protagonists.

While Shuri and his mother, still trying for T’Challa’s demise, discuss the future of the Black Pather figure, comes before them, with the intention of creating an alliance, an amphibious humanoid, Namorking of the abyss, at the command of a blue-skinned people living underwater, whose country is the only one, besides Wakanda, to have Vibranium deposits.

Intent that fails, after several attempts at conciliation, causing the outbreak of a conflict between the Atlanteans and the Wakandians. The clash is also, indirectly, the result of the actions of one brilliant budding American scientist (who is responsible for finding Namor’s allies).

All this chaotic halfway point is also used as a pretext for the birth of two new heroines in the MCU landscape.

The complex interlocking of too many events, the passing of the baton of the “role” of Black Panther, the advent of two new figures on the stage of Marvel heroes and, perhaps, the anticipation of a new historical trend, combined with the memorial, was a gamble that has burdened the vision and forced the extension of the film, despite the simple plot.

The topics addressed | Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever

The main theme, carried forward by the film, is themourning, with a double value: the departure of both Chadwick Boseman and that of the character he so closely interpreted, King T’Challa.

Boseman’s death brought about the need for a total reorganization of the Black Panther story, trying to keep the actor’s spirit alive in respect of him and his performance, as the history of the Black Panther has a tradition of inheritancehelped producers, writers and reviewers find a ploy in starting a new story arc while honoring Boseman.

The result had an unexpected putting out at the center of the events a cast of women onlyall distinct from each other.

The engine that moves the stalemate that lay ahead at the beginning of the film into action is the villain, Namor, who at times takes the spotlight on the growth that Shuri hascompared to previous films, growth that evolves the character making it much more complex, as a result of the inner path that he had to face.

Shuri, in this film, is faced with one of the themes already seen in many Marvel stories, such as Spiderman or Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), with the only difference that it is staged almost without the need to act.

Respect for Chadwick Boseman

Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever, a tribute to Chadwick Boseman

You know, in the world of superheroes, death is never really faced, for us viewers. Indeed there is always a hope of seeing our beloved characters again, even in cases where it seems decidedly definitive. The advent of the Multiverse, however, gives us the opportunity to see them again even if, at times, in different guises.

However, this time even the magic of cinema is not enough.

At first there were rumors of a recasting, but what Boseman had put into the character was not an easy thing to replicate and, changing interpreter would somehow have risked overwriting his workwhich has now been impressed in the public eye.

So anticipating the handover was inevitable, as we have already seen with the “classic” Avengers.

The will to face real mourning, in Wakanda Forever, marks a change in dealing with it, cinematically speaking.

In fact, T’Challa’s death is dealt with a respect and a new delicacy to this kind of filmscreating an emotional depth not typical of the genre, which gives a legacy that sets it apart from the ranks of superheroes seen so far.

Honorable mentions | Black Panther Review: Wakanda Forever

A special mention goes to the technical sector of the, incredible, special effects and Autumn Durald, director of photography.

Let’s not forget theexceptional work by composer Ludwig Göranssonwho directed the music sector of the film, with truly impressive results

In conclusion

The film has far too many points to elaborateamong the various storylines presented, mourning, the presentation of new characters and the opening of the new narrative arc, do not make it light at all and its duration does not lighten the load.

The dedication to Chadwick Boseman is right, thoughtful and well placed in the context of the film. The events and the growth of the characters are, at times, too preponderant and invasive in some scenes, so as to distract from the overall story, making it difficult for the viewer to keep the attention alive for the entire duration of the film.

Despite these characteristics it remains a film to watch with the scenographic, musical, photographic, costumes and special effects sectors worthy of note.
