Future Warner Bros games set in the DC universe will tie into the franchise’s films and TV shows. To affirm it is James Gunndirector and co-CEO of DC Studios.
During an exchange on Twitter, Gunn revealed that “the DCU [DC Universe] it will be connected across film and TV (and animation).” When asked if this expanded universe would include future DC video games, Gunn answered with a resounding “yes.”
What can we expect from upcoming DC games
This approach of multiversality and cross-media is actually not a big surprise. Previously also David Zaslav – head of development for Warner Bros. – had stated that the company was working to create a “more cohesive DC universe” that would involve “live-action films, TV, animation, games and more.”
However, there are due exceptions, especially for games that have already been developed. The highly anticipated Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, for example, is expected to tie into Rocksteady’s Arkham universe alone, which began in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Even the new Gotham Knights seems to be quite disconnected from what we’ve seen in the last few films and series of the franchise. Despite this, the video game was very popular. For example, our review reads:
