With the new update, the Instagram app aims to clarify the matter shadowban, nightmare of all users and scourge of content creators. The application will now provide the ability to check the status of your accounts, to understand if – if so why – some action has been taken against them.
The feature will be available to all those who have a company account and will allow anyone who has published certain posts deemed “unsuitable” to remove or modify them. In addition, shadowban users will be able to appeal for any errors.
What is shadowban on Instagram?
The shadowban consists of a penalty that the Instagram algorithm inflicts on accounts that have published posts that are not in line with the community rules. Thereby the account is not banned, but much of the visibility is taken away from it. Posts and stories may therefore not appear frequently in followers’ homepages and content will not arrive in the Explore and Reels feeds. Dynamics which, in the case of content creators who earn with visibility, would translate into significant economic damage.
Now that it shows users exactly why their content is being removed from recommendations, the company hopes creators will be able to “fix” their mistakes. Also, another important thing, is that finally the platform will let users know if their account is shadowbanned. Previously, in fact, the algorithm limited visibility in a silent and unverifiable way.
If you can’t access the status feature in your account settings, make sure you have the app up to date and have a company profile.
