In Tainan, in the southern region of Taiwan, the most advanced chips in the world are now being produced Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd (TSMC). The company, already a leader in the sector, has started mass production of the highly anticipated chip with 3 nanometer (nm) technology. They will be used in the most diverse sectors, from new generation mobile phones to fighter planes.
TSMC President, Mark Liu, said demand for the 3nm chip has been “very strong,” especially as new technologies such as 5G and supercomputers thrive. According to Liu LMass-Production of 3nm Chips to Generate $1.5 Trillion in Profits Over Five Years.
TSMC – the emperor of chips
Earlier this month, TSMC said it would triple its planned investments in its new Arizona plant to $40 billion. It’s about one of the largest foreign investments in US history. The Taiwanese company, whose chips are used by giants such as Apple and Nvidia, is also building a new plant in Japan, while for the European market a plant in Germany is planned.
Despite this propensity for foreign expansion, Taiwan remains a veritable island founded on the chip industry, being the leading manufacturer of semiconductors and the most advanced chipsets in the world. In the future, TSMC aims to build factories in central Taiwan to produce the chips of the future: 2 nm.
