Not one, not two, not three, not even four: Embracer is working well five new Lord of the Rings games, which will be released by 2024. The news, released by Eurogamer, comes directly from the publisher’s latest financial report.
What we know about the new Lord of the Rings games
There is little, if any, news on the contents of the titles, but what is certain is that the announcement has generated a lot of interest among investors. Eurogamer suggests that one of these projects could be The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, currently in development by Daedalic. Embracer acquired the exploitation rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit in August of last year. The deal, however, does not include film rights, but gives the company the right to develop works related to the universe created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
More generally, Embracer aims to release 94 titles by 2024, including tripa A games, DLC and porting of already published titles. Among the projects also the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a new game in the series Tomb Raider in collaboration with Amazon Games, Hyper Light Breaker (the sequel to the indie game Hyper Light Drifter), Payday 3, System Shock Remake e Lightyear Frontier (coming to Xbox Game Pass this year).
