With more than 10 million shares Heineken Holding acquired, Bill Gates now owns 3.8% of the famous brewing company. The founder of Microsoft is in fact the owner of 6.65 million shares, which join the 4.18 million previously purchased through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust. According to data from the AFM (the Dutch market regulator), the investment cost well 902 million dollars.
Bill Gates buys 3.8% of Heineken but doesn’t like beer
An interesting fact is: Bill Gates isn’t even a big beer lover! In these hours Reuters has brought to light an interview from 2018 during the Ask Me Anything chat. In this Bill Gates claimed he was not a beer aficionado and “drank only light beer” on specific occasions, such as at baseball games.
In any case, again as reported by Reuters, Gates would have bought the shares from the Mexican multinational Economic Fomento Mexicano Sat (FEMSA). The latter would have decided to get rid of its portfolio of 18 million Heineken shares. Gates would have bought 10.8 million, of which more than half through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust.
