Review of XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro, the portable cinema

Have you ever dreamed of being able to take the cinema with you even on the road? No, smartphones and tablets don’t count: John Wick doesn’t have enough space to fight in six inches diagonally. With XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro, the new projector that we tell you about in this review, you can project films and TV series onto a huge wall. And the small size and immediate setup make it convenient to carry. But is it worth the price? We help you understand this by telling you about our experience with the smart projector that you can hold in one hand.

Our review of the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro

Even the white packaging of this projector doesn’t feel all that bulky or heavy. But once removed from the box (where you also find the manuals, the remote control with batteries included and the power supply), MoGo 2 Pro is so small that it doesn’t even look like a projector. Were it not for the projection lenses visible at the top, you might take it for a smart speaker with a beefy sound system.

Measure indeed only 161x119x108 millimeters: maybe it doesn’t fit in your pocket, but it fits comfortably even in a small bag. And it weighs only one kilo and one hundred grams, while the power supply is only slightly heavier than that of a smartphone and the remote control is very light. In short: the complete kit will fit into any backpack and won’t weigh too much on your shoulders.

XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro review

The design, as we said, is somewhat reminiscent of that of a speaker, due to all the “holes” from which the sound comes out. But there is no shortage of style notes. The top rectangle for projection is simple but neatly cut, while on the back we appreciated the presence of the clear plastic that proudly displays the bass woofer. Above you will find the four doors: USB-C, USB-A, HDMI e l’ingresso jack da 3,5mm per l’audio.

Below you will find the support to free it from any supports, while above only the power button and the logo THE LIGHT.

Even the remote control is simple, indeed essential, but well studied. The only note of color is the button for the‘google assistantwhile for the rest we find black buttons, a round dialer and a single key to increase or decrease the volume.

A simple and immediate setup with your Google account

The power supply’s USB-C cable makes it pretty easy to position the projector while plugged into an outlet – although you can also use a compatible power bank if you’re too far from power. But it must be a very powerful power bank: above i 65W.

Turned on the projector with the upper button, the system took a little to warm up and start. The first operation is to pair the remote control, following the instructions on the screen: it really takes a few seconds. At this point, all you have to do is follow the instructions Android TV 11 to link your Google account: just use the app Google Home to solve everything in no time.

The system will also automatically connect to your WiFi (if saved on your phone) and allow you to see all the apps without having to use your smartphone anymore if you don’t want to.

The only downside is the installation Netflix, which requires extra steps for now. Or project your smartphone screen using the Chromecast feature included with the projector, or you will need to install the Desktop Launcher app first before installing Netflix. In the MoGo 2 Pro box, XGIMI has included instructions for doing this: testing for our review only took us a few minutes.

Otherwise, installation is very simple, also thanks to XGIMI’s intelligent software to correct the keystone distortion and focus.

ISA 2.0 – Intelligent Screen Adaptation

MoGo 2 Pro is the first projector that features Auto Keystone Correction and Auto Focus without any interruption with ISA 2.0 – Intelligent Screen Adaptation. After positioning the projector where it is most comfortable (even moving a lot from the perpendicular plane), MoGo 2 Pro will find the best correction by itself. In tests for our review, it didn’t take more than a couple of seconds.

There is also Eye Protectionwhich darkens the image when children or pets pass in front of the projector, to prevent the light from hurting their eyes.

XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro review: Image quality

The Pro version of XGIMI’s new projectors has a resolution from 1920×1080which you can leverage on full-sized images from 40 to 200 inches. We have filled an entire wall of the house with it while maintaining a good level of image quality, even if it seems to us that the best is under 70 inches – the most “classic” TV dimensions.

review XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro test

Covers 90% of DCI-P3, which means pretty good color coverage for a projector (although not on the level of professional PC monitors or the best TVs). We enjoyed using the D65 color temperaturewhich allows you to show greater contrasts and colors rich in nuances, also thanks to the all‘HDR 10.

The brightness up to 400 ISO lumens it won’t break any absolute record: there are projectors that do much more. But not in this size and with these prices. And for standard use they should be more than enough: gamers may want something more to see well even during the day. But those who want to watch a movie in the evening shouldn’t have any problems. Even outdoors you should be able to see well.

Different speech for the exhibition directed to the light. As you can see in this image, on a sunny day (with a window facing south) you can distinguish menus and details, but not fully enjoy a film. It is possible, but we still recommend closing the grille/roller shutter.

test

But we have to admit that in this review XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro made us want to watch movies and series during test nights, with a very simple setup and very good image quality. However, the trump card is the audio.

Powerful and quality audio

Taking the projector with you (perhaps when you go on vacation, to have the solution to rainy days) is convenient when the device is so handy. But if you were forced to bring equally large speakers with youwould make little sense.

Thankfully, the MoGo 2 Pro’s audio is excellent. In fact it has due speaker da 8W which play much louder than we would have thought, also giving an idea of three-dimensional sound. The audio is not as clean as in dedicated solutions, but the volume and clarity are more than enough to enjoy a movie. And with the bass diaphragm which you can see on the back, you can also enjoy action movies.

You can also choose from four audio modes: Movies, Sports, Music and News. And by clicking on the power button on the remote control, you can turn off the screen and use it only as a speaker: a product capable of dividing itself and offering something more.

XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro Review: Is It Worth It?

XGIMI sells the MoGo 2 Pro that we tested in this review for 599 euro: from today you can pre-order it on the official website or on Amazonfrom April 25 also comes from Media World e Unieuro. Is this price worth it?

The truth is, it’s hard to put a value on a product that has few rivals in the industry. There are projectors with similar characteristics that cost a little less, but hardly anyone is as easily portable and so easy to use. So we think it’s well worth the price.

Rather, XGIMI competes at home. MoGo 2 costs 399 euros, which are two hundred less. But it forgoes 1080p resolution (it’s only 720p) and ISA 2.0. And then there are less portable projectors – but which offer 4K resolution and greater brightness – for a few hundred euros more.

If you want an appliance that has it though the right compromise between size and ease of use on the one hand and audio and video quality on the otherwe think it’s a really interesting solution – maybe crossing our fingers and hoping for a discount for the sales.
