Since taking over Twitter, Elon Musk cut staff from 8,000 to 1,500 employees. In an interview with the BBC correspondent James Clayton from Twitter HQ, Musk said taking over the social media platform was “necessary”, but managing it was “quite painful” and like being on a “roller coaster”.
Twitter, personal from 8000 to 1500 units with Elon Musk
In the interview, Musk stressed that he aspires to make Twitter a “transparent and honest” medium, but according to him there is still work to be done. The CEO of the social network said he is working to contain the disinformation, but he denied that hate messages increased under his leadership of the social media platform. Something he had already done in recent months, when reporters reported an increase in hate speech.
The interview reports several other statements that the CEO had made in the past. He said he should have paid less for Twitter after discovering that there are a lot of automated social bots at work on the net. He has stated that many of the councilors who have departed with him have arrived they have since returned.
But even said that for now it won’t sell Twitter to anyone willing to offer him an amount equal to the $44 billion he paid to buy it a year ago.
Indeed, the entrepreneur said that advertising on Twitter has increased under him and added that the company’s balance sheet is “roughly even”. But the BBC said it could not independently verify this claim.
During the interview, Musk joked in multiple ways. He said that his dog Floki is now the new CEO of Twitter and admitted, “I don’t think I should be tweeting after 3am anymore.” In short, it seems that the same Musk we see in the tweets is the one who does the interviews: the points are the same. And the jokes too.
