An important piece of news could shake up the world of social media: Instagram would be about to throw one new app dedicated to conversations text-based, a true rival to Twitter. The first information leaked online, with the launch scheduled for next month.
Instagram ready to launch a rival app to Twitter
The news was released by Lia Haberman’s ICYMI Substack newsletter, which published a marketing slide and other details confirmed by The Verge.
The slide doesn’t reveal the name of the app but describes it as “Instagram’s new text-based app for conversations“. It seems that Instagram users will be able write text up to 500 characters. They will also be able to add photos, videos and links, but above all they will be able to follow the same accounts they follow on Instagram with a simple touch. This will allow you to easily build an audience.

Unlike Twitter, users will be able to choose who can reply to their messages and mention their accounts. The current ones Instagram community rules also apply to the new platform.
Instagram has announced that the app will allow users to connect with other apps like Mastodon. Which is one of the alternatives that is increasing the number of users after the takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk. But the ability to carry Instagram accounts with you could be a major plus for Meta’s new app.
