TikTok today announced that Series, a monetization tool that allows creators to put their content behind paywalls, will be available to more users. The feature was launched in March (we told you about it here) but was limited to a few selected users.
What is Series and who can activate it
With Series, the creators of TikTok can create paywalls, or blocks that prevent access to content if a certain amount is not paid. It is therefore the same system that has made the strength of platforms such as OnlyFans. The contents can be grouped into specific collections, like real playlists (called Series). Prices to access the Series can range from 1 to 190 dollars and individual videos can be up to 20 minutes long, double the current maximum limit.
In order to use Series, users must be 18 or older, 10,000 followers. The Verge reports that those with fewer than 1,000 followers can still apply if they can prove they’ve already sold exclusive content on other platforms, but this requirement doesn’t guarantee access to the program.
TikTok has promised that, at least in the initial phase, 100% of the proceeds will go to the creators. It is unclear whether this percentage is likely to decrease thereafter.
