Ship and Weapon Customization | What to know about Starfield

In choosing yours spaceship, you won’t be limited to the usual two or three preset templates. You can therefore create your shuttle taking care of every detail. Bethesda has taken great care of the options available to you, to the point of being able to start from scratch. Just be aware of effects and possible repercussions on shuttle performance. The same goes for the weapons, subject to a crafting system to be able to have your say on your arsenal as well. What we have seen includes every kind of modification imaginable for a machine gun. Ready to spit bullets, not sentences (High On Life, we’re looking at you).

We’d be surprised if the same couldn’t be said of yours avatar. Obviously we start from the usual basic model, but options for height, build, skin pigmentation, hair… there really is something for everyone. What you may not know, however, is the possibility of giving a background to your character: doctor, bouncer, professor or stay-at-home, every choice shapes the gameplay options available to you. From lasers to persuasive skills, through medicine and negotiations. All the Bethesda trademarks are there…

Indeed, there are also sometraits” badges, i.e. optional choices full of pros and cons. For example, you have the ability to enjoy more health and stamina in space… but trudging while on a planet. There are many others, but we limit ourselves to three examples. Having a “dream home” will give you a customizable villa whose mortgage you can pay off with 50,000 credits a week. If you’re “venerable heroes,” you’ll have an annoyingly gifted but immortal fan (yes, we used the “but”; don’t be a goody-goody). Or if you prefer “kid stuff,” get ready to have in-game parents… who get 10% of your money, Pokémon Gold and Silver Version style.

Bethesda Classics | What to know about Starfield

What others mechanical Elder Scrolls/Fallout style are there? You will be able to rummage through the pockets of NPCs (we don’t know if you can fill them with grenades). You can also pick locks. Persuasion also returns with a minigame where “there are no right answers.” You can of course recruit NPCs (and more, if you get the hint). Joining factions will be possible, without precluding access to side quests like in Fallout 4. And yes, building outposts is included in the package. I mean, is there still something we don’t know? To a small extent, yes.

Teammates | What to know about Starfield

We do not know, for example, whether the issue of NPC it has been expanded compared to its “predecessors”. As can be expected, however, the comrades come back to give us a hand, as demonstrated by the various Vasco, Sarah and Barrett on duty. The first of the three, expedition robot that it is, will be your pack mule, with related assistance in battle. In general, the main NPCs are defined precisely companionswhile the more generic ones to recruit are i crew members. The differences between the two types can be found in the dialogue choices and romance options. Which, by the way, remain firm to the prudishness of a 1950s sitcom.

Magic and single-player | What to know about Starfield

Apparently, the magic it is an integral part of the Starfield universe, if what has been seen in the presentation arc is reliable. In fact, we can see in a clip the protagonist intent on changing the force of gravity with a gesture, in order to lift the enemies from the ground. We don’t know how these abilities will come into play at this point, but we can assume that the artifacts found in the game will affect the unexpected Jedi twist. What is expected, however, is the multiplayer… or rather, there isn’t. Bethesda does not currently intend to work on any form of PvP or co-opwhich leads us to wait for fans to bring the equivalent of Skyrim Together to life… ten years from now, maybe.

“Behold the vastness of space I don’t care” | What to know about Starfield

In the gameplay reveal, Todd Howard revealed that there will be in the galaxy over a thousand planets to explore. To make that number possible, Bethesda resorted to some random generation, with life forms on a good 10% of the planets. The remaining 90% will not be a waste of time if it is true that “we will also generate things for you to find on empty planets”, as revealed by Howard during a podcast. The story is set in an explorable region comparable to a radius of fifty light years around the solar system, with authorities and anarchists intent on dividing it (plus all sorts of thugs and minions in between). There will also be cities, such as the capital New Atlantis and Akila, home to the dissidents.

What is there, exactly, in the middle? | What to know about Starfield

The smaller factions there is no shortage, and with them their secondary quests. The human explorers of Constellation, the fulcrum of the plot, have been described by Todd Howard as “NASA meets Indiana Jones and the league of Extraordinary Gentlemen (from Alan Moore’s comic strip turned into film, ed): people in search of answers”. As for the other groups, quest designer Will Shen spoke of something more comparable to Skyrim than Fallout 4. In other words, as already mentioned, helping one faction or the other is not binding, a bit like Zephyr and Porto Brezza in good old Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer.

And the final tip is…

What could we use to round off an article about trivia about Starfield? Todd Howard has said that, without any room for ambiguity and interpretation, the game can be modded at will. “We intend to fully support mods as in previous games. […] Our community of modders has been with us for twenty years. We love what they do and would love to see them make a career in this field.” We’d end it all with a few digs asking “True…?”, but we wouldn’t know which publisher to start from to conclude this rhetorical question.
