The tech world gathers under the Berlin sky. All the biggest consumer electronics manufacturers are filling the halls of the exhibition centre Messe Berlin per l’IFA 2023, one of the most important events in the technological world, where we expect to see lots of news. We flew to Germany to get to know the most important announcements of large companies, but also to discover startups and small companies that present innovative products.
IFA 2023, the news we expect from the Berlin fair
The Berlin fair has a fundamental importance in the world of technology, both for its centennial history and for the impact it still has on the world of technology today. As Bruno Ruffilli reminds us in Republica, in 1930 the fair was inaugurated by none other than Albert Einstein. And this year he will be hosting over 2 thousand producers from 44 countries and will welcome 180,000 participants from 130 countries. In other words, as the years go by, IFA’s influence increases.
For those like us who want to tell the world of technology, the novelties of IFA 2023 are essential. They allow you to get to know the most important trends coming from the most well-known companies in the world of audio, video, smart homes and appliances and technology in general. In addition, among the halls of Berlin there are many small companies and startups that present truly innovative productswhich may not reach the homes or pockets of the general public, but which can launch trends that will explode in the coming months and years.
IFA 2023 will also serve for industry leaders to discuss some of the hottest topics, especially during the IFA Leaders Summit. Who will discuss artificial intelligence and the geopolitics of chips. In addition, there will be thematic areas dedicated to games and esports, a Sustainability Village and a House of Robots, as well as an area dedicated to startups.
So there’s no doubt: some of the novelties of IFA 2023 will amaze us. But between advance announcements and rumors, there are some products we expect to see from 1 to 5 September in the stands set up by the biggest brands.
The news from the world of video and audio
After touring several tradeshows, we are confident that there are few products that grab the attention of a hall full of visitors like quality displays. So we expect Samsung to feature TVs and monitors in its huge dedicated exhibition hall (last year it unveiled the Odyssey OLED G8, so we expect to see the all-new G9). Along with the latest news from the tablet and smartphone world, such as the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 5 (which we reviewed here).
LG has already announced the very interesting StanbyME Go, the monitor / TV that fits in a briefcase and that you can take with you, together with the 20W four-channel speakers. And then there are the excellent OLED TVs – a 97-inch one arrived in 2022, will LG be able to do better?
Then there will be many other TV manufacturers from which we expect interesting news, such as Toshiba e TCL. But there will also be projectors, such as those of Lightwhich should announce the new Horizon Ultra in 4K.
Many also audio producers, such as JBL which will announce new headphones and speakers in Berlin. Sennheiser, which plays at home like many other audio brands, seems to focus on soundbars to attract the attention of fair patrons, but we also expect news on audiophile headphones. And also urban planner e Devil they have news to show at the fair.
Smartphones, computers and many other novelties at IFA 2023
Although IFA 2023 will not be a fair focused on the smartphone world, we expect some really interesting news. In addition to the aforementioned Samsung, which despite not having (it seems) products to launch in the smartphone field will bring news for its Galaxy ecosystem, there are other companies ready to surprise.
Sony should announce new line Xperia, as it did last year. And even if it weren’t, discovering the brand’s TV, audio and other products is always interesting. Honor has a dedicated event that suggests that a new version of its foldable smartphone may arrive.
For the computer world there will be several interesting products, especially from manufacturers such as Lenovo e ASUS, who each presented their own version of a foldable screen laptop last year. And then there are so many peripheral manufacturers, from Logitech up to the routers of AVMwho will announce their new products at IFA 2023. Which perhaps won’t surprise us like the robots of some startups, but which will end up in the homes of many people in the coming months.
A world of appliances and smart homes
As always, at IFA there will be plenty of space (literally) for the world of home appliances and smartphones. Many of the brands we have talked about will launch refrigerators, washing machines and washer-dryers, air conditioners and more: Samsung, LG, TCL. And then Haier, also with its Candy and Hoover brands, always successful in Italy. But also Hisensewhich in addition to the appliances will have several TVs for us to admire.
Then there are many brands in the smart home world. From smart thermostats from brands like Tado° up to the smart locks of Move e Yale, just to give an example. But also the cleaning robots for the house and also for the swimming pool, such as those of AIPER.
A world of novelties at IFA 2023
These more “classic” novelties will be joined by many innovative and “niche” products. One way to discover them quickly, without getting lost in the halls of IFA 2023, is to look for the news at the event Showstopper, where we will find a lot of news condensed. They range from AI solutions to manage the agenda up to sex toys smart, from smart machines for the kitchen to solutions for traveling in a technological way.
But despite this concentration of novelties helps a lot to tell the particularities of this Berlin fair, part of the charm lies in “getting lost” among the stands and discovering brands that are unknown in Italy (but which perhaps sell a lot in another European country), test products that we never knew could exist. All news that we will tell you in the next few days, along with the most important announcements of the big brands.
