Quake II Remastered is one of those video games that needs no introduction and has captured the attention of many fans since its release. Our review of Quake II remastered
Quake II has been a hit since its debut in 1997. Set in a dystopian future, the game puts us in the role of a soldier called upon to fight an aggressive alien race known as Strogg. Fascinating storyline and engaging narration helped make Quake II one of the most beloved games of its era. This remastered version obviously keeps the original story intact, allowing players to relive the epic battle against the Strogg with improved graphics and smoother gameplay.
The gameplay of Quake II Remastered offers an exciting and fast-paced gaming experience to say the least. Players can expect a mix of adrenaline-pumping action and strategic elements. At our disposal we will have a wide range of weapons, each with its unique characteristics, which allow us to customize our style of play. Furthermore, Quake II Remastered offers an online multiplayer mode which allows players to compete in frenetic matches against other enthusiasts. This additional feature increases the longevity of the game and adds many hours of enjoyment.
Added to this of course are all the updates and extra content released over the years, among these we find the expansion The Reckoningthe expansion Ground Zerothe classic versions of all three products and Quake 2 64, which is the Nintendo 64 version of the game. There is also a new unpublished expansion called Call of the Machine made by MachineGames.
The new expansion: Call of The Machine
In addition to the technical sector, which we will analyze in the next paragraph, undoubtedly the most interesting novelty is the new Call of The Machine expansion, created for the occasion. This expansion adds approximately five hours of gameplay into a mission consisting of seven main missions. The expansion is very well done in the classic style of the game but adapted to be fully enjoyed by players, old and new. These are particularly difficult missions with many strategically positioned enemies.
The remastering
Compared to the original version of the game, the remastering offers a great viewing experience. Character models, environments and visual effects have been redesigned, making the game more realistic and immersive. Enemies and scenery details have been refined to deliver a high-quality visual experience. Additionally, the remastered version supports higher resolutions and smoother gameplay, allowing gamers to enjoy an even more immersive visual experience. We also findand useful graphics options such as CRT simulation, anti-aliasing, depth of field, dynamic shadows and many more. Obviously we are still in the presence of a remaster and not a remake, so don’t expect contemporary graphics.
