Spotify is testing, at the moment only for some users, the possibility of make song lyrics exclusive to Premium subscribers. The feature that shows the lyrics of the songs being played is available to everyone, or at least it has been until now.
The Verge reports that the test is conducted on a small sample of non-subscribers. These, if they try to click on the function that shows the lyrics of the songs, they see a banner appear inviting them to perform l’upgrade al piano Premium. The banner reads: “Goditi i testi su Spotify Premium”.

The Swedish company itself, again in The Verge, confirmed the test, explaining that the maneuver is in line with Spotify’s new policies. In fact, the streaming giant appears intent on recovering from last year’s financial slump, when it suffered a dramatic decline in paid users in the third quarter. A drop that has led Spotify to increase the cost of its Premium subscription. In Italy the service has gone from costing €9.99 a month to 10,99€.
However, the mystery remains around the phantom HiFi service, which would allow listening in lossless mode. Spotify HiFi has been feared several times by the companybut to date it remains only a project on paper, despite all the main competitors already offering lossless listening.
