Some users have reported that the iPhone 15 Pro overheats – but what causes these problems? Although some rumors have suggested that these problems might depend on the 3nm chip built by TSMC, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks it may depend on the design choices and materials used by Apple.
iPhone 15 Pro overheats, the possible causes of the problem
Ming-Chi Kuo’s survey of sources within Apple’s production chain indicates that overheating it is not directly related to TSMC’s 3nm advanced node. Instead, it seems that the design of the thermal system played a fundamental role.
Apple may have made design compromises to achieve a lighter device. And this would have entailed a reduced heat dissipation area and the use of a frame in titanium. This would have compromised the overall thermal efficiency of the device.
To address this overheating problem, Apple seems to want to focus on solutions via software updates. However, Kuo reports that this could result limitations in processor performance, in order to keep overheating under control. The challenge for Apple will be to balance performance and heating.
If Apple does not adequately address the overheating issue, this could have a negative impact on shipments and overall perception of the product during the life cycle of the iPhone 15 Pro series. We therefore expect that Apple’s solutions will not be long in arriving: it will remain to be evaluated how they will change the user experience.
