The keynote of Meta Connect 2023 announced several innovations in the field of virtual and augmented reality: both in the hardware field with Meta Quest 3 e Ra-Ban Meta Smart Glassesboth in the software one with the many functions of Meta AI.
Meta Connect 2023: Meta Quest 3, Ray-Ban Meta e Meta AI
One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the presentation of Meta Quest 3, the new virtual reality viewer. Meta gave a glimpse of this device back in June, in response to Apple’s announcement of its Vision Pro. But only now have we gotten all the details on the headset, which looks very interesting.
Meta Quest 3
Meta Quest 3 will blend elements of augmented reality with the physical environment. This functionality, supported by color passthrough, offers immersive experiences in VR and integrated into the AR world. The headset can do all this with the chip Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. Meta claims that the Quest 3 offers the double the performance of its predecessorthe Quest 2, with higher resolution and greater depth of field.
The viewers have a wheel for adjusting the interpupillary distance, which will improve comfort during use. Furthermore, i new Quest controllers include haptic feedback and abandon the tracking rings. This should improve further the gaming and interaction experience.
Meta is also expanding the possibilities of the Quest 3 beyond gaming. In December, the headset will support Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing you to play your favorite Xbox games in virtual reality. FurthermoreMicrosoft 365 apps will be available on Quest later this year, opening the door to new work and productivity opportunities. In the future, users will even be able to access Windows directly through the viewer.
Pre-orders for the Meta Quest 3 are already openwith a price starting from 549.99 euros for the 128 GB version of storage space e 699,99 euro for the variant with double the storage space (512 GB). Both versions arrive bundled with the game Asgard’s Wrath 2but the 512GB model also has Meta Quest+ for six months at no additional cost. The viewers will be available starting from October 10th.
Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Meta presented a new hardware device during the Connect 2023 event. In collaboration with Ray-Banintroduced a new series of smart glasses.
I Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses they feature significantly improved specifications compared to previous Ray-Ban Stories. They have one 12MP wide-angle camera capable of recording video in 1080p resolution at 60 fps. Although there is a 60-second limit for video recording, this feature is a perfect fit for Instagram Stories. In addition, the glasses offer a storage capacity with 32 GB of space.
The device has five microphones capable of capturing audio spatially, while the speakers are more powerful and significantly reduce ambient noise. Plus, you can choose between two different frame design options, and the charging case has a discreet look, similar to a regular Ray-Ban protective case.
At the moment, Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are not available in Italy. But in the US they are priced starting at $299, with shipping scheduled for October 17th. We will keep you updated for availability in Italy.
Meta Connect 2023, focus on AI
Regarding developments in Artificial Intelligence, Meta is introducing a series of 28 AI chatbot personalities, many of which will be voiced by celebrities. These interactive personalities will be available on several platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and on new hardware devices.
Furthermore, Meta is bringing AI-based generative image editing on Instagram, allowing users to transform their photos to give them a look similar to a watercolor painting or to change the background as desired. In fact, one will arrive soon AI-powered generative green screen functionality, similar to the one already seen on YouTube. In the end, AI-generated stickers will be available on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook Stories.
In short, if Meta continues to focus on virtual and augmented reality, it also places emphasis on artificial intelligence. By launching new hardware on the one hand, and on the other by introducing AI into its widespread social networks.
