New war crisis and new wave of cyberattacks. In the last hours they would be well 4 Italian airports targeted by a coordinated hacker attack. In fact, the websites of the airports have suffered slowdowns Aosta Valley, Calabria, Puglia e Napoli.
The attacks occurred this morning (Wednesday 25 October 2023) and caused slowdowns in the airports’ online services. The hackers’ goal appears to be to protest against Israel, following the crisis with Hamas.
What we know about the hacker attack on airports: the Mysterious team Bangladesh
The attacks were of type Ddos (Distributed denial of service), i.e. an overload of requests that prevents the normal functioning of the sites. Airport administrations managed to quickly mitigate the effects of the offensive, limiting the inconvenience for users.
The Italian Cybersecurity Agency, which monitors and counteracts cyber threats, has alerted all those potentially involved in the attack: in addition to airports, all providers of essential services, such as energy, transport, communications and healthcare.
At the moment, according to ANSA, a group of hackers known as Mysterious team Bangladesh. The group has attracted attention in the past for attacking Indian and Israeli sites, with mainly political and religious motivations. In Europe, Mysterious team Bangladesh had also attacked Sweden, after the case of the destruction of a copy of the Koran. The situation in the Middle East, where a dramatic conflict is underway between Israel and Hamas, was the occasion for a new hacking campaign by the crew.
