Many owners of Apple Watch they noticed one drastic reduction in battery life after updating their devices to watchOS 10.1. This problem seems to affect all Apple Watch models, from Series 4 to Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. A problem that also causes difficulties in charging, with frequent overheating of wearables.
Fortunately Apple has officially acknowledged the problem and promised a software fix.
The battery lasts too little on Apple Watch: user complaints
Some examples of how serious the problem is have been reported on Twitter, Reddit, and Apple’s support forums. One user said his Apple Watch Series 9 ran out of battery completely in less than three hours, while another reported a 25% battery loss in half an hour. A third user complained that watchOS 10.1 was “killing” his Apple Watch’s battery, causing it to drop by 50% in an hour.
Additionally, many users have experienced problems charging their Apple Watches due to high temperatures. In the Settings app, a message appears that says: “Charging is paused due to Apple Watch temperature”. This means that the watch continues to run out of power even when connected to the charger.
We have to wait for the next software update
In a note sent to its authorized support partners, Apple confirmed that it is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. The note states that the fix will arrive via a software update for watchOS 10. However, the document does not specify when the update will be available.
According to MacRumors, Apple is working on releasing iOS 17.1.1 for iPhones, and it is assumed that the Apple Watch battery issue will be fixed with watchOS 10.1.1. However, it is possible that the final solution will only arrive with watchOS 10.2, which is currently in beta and should be released in December.
