The review of the Meater 2 Plus smart thermometer: cooking meat has a completely different flavour

It is now an established rule that technology helps man where it is needed most. And it is no coincidence that it is present in one of the most important fields for our survival as well as an inexhaustible source of satisfaction: Kitchen! (what were you thinking?!). This Meater e Apption Labsthey know it well and his attention to detail and accuracy have earned him a special podium in the field of smart thermometers for cooking meat and not. After testing the Meater Plus with great gusto, the company recently presented the Meater 2 Plus and this is its review.

The Meater 2 Plus review

The Meater 2 Plus is a smart thermometer capable of guiding us through every phase of meat cooking with very high precision. Unlike the previous model, which already set high standards, the 2 Plus raises the bar even further and well, the temperatures. This model is in fact able to withstand an external temperature of 500°, has greater precision in measuring the internal temperature, a wider Bluetooth range and a longer-lasting battery.

As well as everything you need for really get the most out of any type of meat cooking, roasted, grilled, smoked, pan-fried, air-fried or fried in oil.

But let’s start in order.

Design

Meater 2 Plus

The Meater 2 Plus is made up of two main parts, the thermometer itself and its charging “base”.

The thermometer is made of stainless steel and its thickness is 5mm makes it 30% thinner than the previous model. The performance of the material is excellent and despite its small size it gives off a remarkable sense of solidity. The upper part is equipped with three sensors that analyze the temperature of the meat while the lower part, slightly wider, measures the temperature of the outside.

His charging base it is an elegant wooden rectangle with metal elements. The back houses the battery (AAA) included in the package that powers the bluetooth and recharge the thermometer. An LED on the front will indicate when the thermometer, once removed, is working. On the back of the base we also find two practical magnets so you can hook it onto a metal support and have it easily available.

Inside the package we also find an instruction booklet that will guide us to download the Meater application, which we will talk about later, to which to connect the thermometer.

Technology

The real magic happens inside the thermometer. The Meater 2 Plus takes advantage of the Smart Temp multi-sensor technology capable of revealing the temperature of the meat with very high precision, giving itself a margin of error of 0.3°. This is thanks to a certified 3-point calibration process. This combines with the design of the thermometer”Flame Guard” capable of increasing the maximum tolerance temperature of the surrounding environment up to 500°C allowing you to use it truly anywhere, with any technique but above all without worrying about your health.

The new version of the thermometer also sports a Bluetooth 5.2 Coded PHY which increased the connection range between the thermometer and the smartphone, allowing you to move freely around the house while always keeping the temperature of the meat under control.

Again for your peace of mind, the thermometer now boasts agreater autonomy. The fully charged probe lasts more than 24 hours and the single AAA battery keeps the probe charged for up to two years. Double that of the previous model. The base also exploits the potential of rfast charging; 15 minutes of charging corresponds to approximately 12 hours of use.

The Meater app, everything we need but…

Meater 2 app

The nerve center of the thermometer, as well as the prerogative of the “Smart” wording, is the Meater application. Through the application we will be able to see everything that the thermometer is analyzing but not only. The App will guide us through the cooking of our dish whether it is chicken or beef, the type and so on. From here we will be able to set a goal or time and the application will warn us of any anomalies or when it is best to take out or turn the meat. The quantities of statistics it offers are many but all very clear and never too complex.

To these, we add the new Master Class sections that offers real recipes to follow step by step complete with difficulties in making, ingredients, description of what to do and so on. The quantity of recipes made available is really high and concerns various types of cooking and cuts of meat. You want to cook a whole chicken? We have the recipe. You want to cook a delicious cut of beef? We have the recipe! And not just meat! The recipe book, as well as the thermometer, is also designed to create delicious creams, soups and other types of dishes that do not necessarily require meat.

Our (chef’s) test with the Meater 2 Plus

PFor the review of this Meater 2 Plus we prepared some good roast beef in the oven in which the thermometer was a fundamental element. Roast beef cooking times are in fact one of the parameters to keep under control so as not to find a good slice of meat ruined by excessive cooking. The ideal interior temperature should be around 50 degrees approximately and never go beyond them, to avoid biting an insole.

Getting a clear idea of the internal temperature was nothing short of a breeze with the Meater 2 Plus. The application is very simple to use and the parameters are clear and clearly visible as well as of an almost exaggerated precision. The notification system works great and notified us just before the Roast Beef reached the temperature we set.

Although in recipe book the recipe for our beloved Roast Beef was not available, we appreciated the multitude of dishes offered but we were sorry to see the description of ingredients and procedures only in English. Since the rest of the application is perfectly translated into Italian, we are confident that this is a temporary situation and that an update could bring the translations of the Master Class section.

The Meater 2 Plus smart thermometer review in brief

IThe Meater 2 Plus is a truly surprising smart thermometer that combines its incredibly precise meat temperature measurement capabilities with a remarkable design touch. Although the price of €129 may make most people turn up their noses, meat lovers will not be able to do without this thermometer to really get the maximum flavor.

Its ease of use is only matched by its effectiveness and once you try it, it will be impossible to go back.
