Let’s talk about both news that companies will announce during 2024 – TVs, headphones, displays, and various devices, already in production. But also of ideas for a hypothetical future: concept car innovative, display technologies that we will only see in a few years in smartphones and tablets, gadgets that could be revolutionary or out of the water.
Il CES 2024 will be all of this: we expect to see products that will arrive in Italy in a few months, but also surprises that perhaps we will never see on the shelves of electronics stores. This will allow us to understand technological trends both for the near future and for the next few years. And according to announcements already made and rumors, there are already some trends that seem to be emerging.
Processors and laptops: focus on AI
One of the central aspects of CES 2024 will be the emphasis on advanced processors and laptopswith particular attention toartificial intelligence (AI). Intel recently announced its processors Intel Core Ultra, which we have already seen declined in some products. The company is also expected to announce new mobile processors in Las Vegas. Nvidia it will not be outdone: we will probably see the new GPUs and specific features for AI. And then Qualcomm will present news on “On-Device AI” technology, to exploit algorithms even when there is no internet connection.
Lenovo, Asus, Acer and several other laptop makers (basically everyone except Apple, which isn’t expected to unveil anything at CES 2024) will launch their own new releases. If last year we saw several foldable products and advanced engineering solutions, this year the focus should be on AI.
TV: increase in quality and size
Another point of interest at CES 2024 will be the smartphone sector TVwith an expectation of further growth in terms of image quality and size. LG has already announced its QNED line with record thumbnails, and the OLED line will not be far behind. Samsung held multiple events, and will feature products of all kinds (including refrigerators with AI). But we expect it to also present new TVs at CES 2024, both QLED and OLED. Sony will have news both for the Mini-LED lines and for the processors of its TVs.
Electric cars (but less focus on autonomous driving)
Cars are increasingly taking center stage at CES in Las Vegas. BMW announced the color-changing car two years ago, while Vision Dee chatted with us last year. And then we have seen cars with integrated mixed reality, autonomous vans and much more in recent years.
The automotive industry will have a strong presence at CES 2024, with electric cars at the center of attention. However, unlike previous years, it is expected that the autonomous driving may receive less attention: investments in recent years have not brought the fruits that companies hoped for. So we expect more focus on electric and efficient cars. We will also see concept cars and surprising technologies – but at CES 2024 we expect more concreteness.
WiFi 7 coming to many devices
One notable aspect to keep an eye on at CES 2024 is the arrival of the WiFi 7 across a broader set of devices. The WiFi standard, also known as IEEE 802.11be, we have already seen this last year for routers and networking solutions. But this year it should debut on more products: not just top-of-the-line smartphones and laptops.
Not all smart home solutions will adopt this standard, although we may see innovations in this area (both from large brands such as Amazon and Google and for startups and small companies). But WiFi 7 will start to appear among the feature lists of several products we’ll see at CES.
No smartphone (but maybe we’ll see Galaxy S24)
In general, CES is not the main stage for new launches smartphone. Telephone companies have begun to follow the example of Apple, which has been announcing iPhones at dedicated events for several years now. However, some rumors suggest the possible anticipation of Galaxy S24 from Samsung, which debuts January 17. Perhaps Samsung will preview the design to us in the press and show us the device’s AI functions, to increase anticipation for the smartphone’s announcement. Nothing is certain: but we hope so.
