If 2023 was, among other things, the year of artificial intelligence, 2024 promises to be no less important in this area.
In the final weeks of last year, OpenAI unveiled GPT-4 Turbo, Anthropic launched the Claude 2.1 chatbot, Elon Musk made Grok software available to Premium+ X users, and Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat) exited preview phase.
And now, as 2024 has just begun, Google is once again making people talk about the Bard chatbot, after having integrated Gemini, its new artificial intelligence, into Bard in December.
This time ChatGPT’s competitor is reportedly working on an advanced (and paid) version of its software, which will most likely be called Bard Advanced. What do we know about him so far?
Google Bard Advanced
Developer Dylan Roussel revealed the Mountain View company’s next moves in preview. What in a series of posts published on X on the afternoon of Thursday 4 January even shared some screenshots of what Google Bard Advanced should be.
And he provided some details. Roussel wrote, for example, that Bard Advanced will use Gemini Ultra, the most advanced version of Gemini available today (Nano, Pro and Ultra). The current Bard uses the Pro version instead.
Bard Advanced tramite Google One
Beyond the information provided by Dylan Roussel, others can be seen from the screenshots shared by the developer.
In one, for example, we read that Bard Advanced is a “larger, more complex language model with advanced mathematical and reasoning capabilities”.
Roussel also made it known that Bard Advanced will be provided exclusively through a subscription to Google One, the company’s paid service. But you will be entitled to a three-month free trial.
Beyond this service, the developer also mentioned Mokoto, a tool for creating and customizing bots, and a Gallery section to discover, through examples of conversations, the chatbot’s capabilities depending on the different prompts.
There would also be a Tasks section, for managing complex activities, and a Power Up button to help users refine their requests.
Google (for now) is silent
For now there have been neither confirmations nor denials from Google. Which, still looking at rival OpenAI, with the possible next release of paid Bard Advanced would “mimic” the characteristics of GPT Plus: a more advanced version of ChatGPT reserved for those who subscribe to a subscription plan.
There is not even a forecast of what the cost of the Bard Advanced subscription will be.
Bedros Pamboukian’s tip
Actually, the very first report of something new that Google was working on was provided on January 3, again on X, by another developer, Bedros Pamboukian.
Who, in a post, showed a string of code on the Bard website that revealed plans for a more advanced version of the chatbot. The developer wrote: “Hi, Bard Advanced will be free for 3 months and you will also need Google One, have fun.
The fact that it is in production implies that it is ready and in the testing phase (it is currently an experiment).
Again, this isn’t a leak, but Google keeps putting things in plain sight and literally no one notices…”
Bard e Gemini
While waiting for Bard Advanced, the Pro version of Gemini was integrated into Bard at the end of last year.
Gemini features a 32K window for text, but future versions will feature a much larger window.
The free update, however, is only available in English, and at least for now it is closed to European users.
However, 2024 could be a turning point year, with the double introduction of Gemini Pro also in Europe and above all with the arrival of the paid Bard Advanced version. Which will allow us to discover the features of Gemini Ultra, the most powerful of the three versions announced by Google. In fact, according to the company, Ultra achieved a score of 90% and is superior to any other current AI model, including OpenAI’s GPT-4.
