The January 2024 update arrives for Google Pixel smartphones with security patches and fixes for the camera
If you have a Google Pixel smartphone, you have probably already received or will soon receive a software update notification. This is the first update of 2024, which brings with it the security patches updated on January 5th and some Pixel-specific bug fixes. In this article we will see what they are novelty and the improvements introduced by this update, which devices are affected and how to check if your Pixel is already ready to download and install the update.
Google Pixel update: what’s new?
The January 2024 update for Pixels has a variable weight depending on the device. The main changes concern the security and stability of the Android operating system, which it receives 59 corrections of vulnerabilities, of which 11 dated January 1st and 48 dated January 5th. These patches address issues related to the framework, kernel, Qualcomm components, media framework and system.
In addition to security patches, the update also includes some fix specifiche per i Pixelwhich mainly concern the camera and user interface.

The new update for Pixels is intended for all smartphones still included in Google’s software support program. Previous devices, such as the Pixel 3a, 3a XL, 3 and 3 XL, no longer receive updates from Google as they are considered obsolete. Here are the smartphones (and tablets) compatible:

How to check if your Pixel has received the update?
The new patches for Pixels are distributed gradually via OTA (over the air), so it may take a few days before they arrive on all devices. If you haven’t received the update notification yet, you can manually check if your Pixel is already eligible following these steps:
- April Settings of your Pixel
- touch System
- System update
- touch Check for updates
If your device has detected the presence of the update, you will be able to download and install it following the on-screen instructions. Otherwise, you will have to wait a few more days before it is available for your model.
If you don’t want to wait for the OTA, you can too download manually the update file from the official Google website and install it via the sideload method or via a factory image. However, these procedures require a certain familiarity with modding and pose risks to your deviceso we recommend you only go this route if you know what you’re doing.
