Riot Games officially announced the 2024 season in League of Legends (LoL), introducing us to a new champion with a fiery character and revealing a series of innovative features coming soon.
Between updates, new features and game modes, let’s find out what the new season has in store for us.
A new Champion arrives: who is Smolder?
“I am ‘Ignacarious Gigantareno Rex Le Spes Offerentis’, but my human friend calls me Smolder!”. This is how the new champion presents himself, who has a character decidedly prone to pyromania. Smolder he is a direct descendant of the dei lineage imperial dragons of Camavor, and therefore possesses decidedly remarkable abilities and skills. The most important of all? Setting things on fire. We told you there was pyromania.
Here are all of Smolder’s abilities:
- Q – Super burning breath. Smolder Spits flames at enemies, with the ability to increase the range of fire (literally). In fact, based on the charges (see Draconic Training), the ability becomes more powerful. In particular:
25: Deals damage to all enemies around the target.
125: Causes explosions behind the target. These deal 75% of this ability’s damage.
225: Directly burns the target dealing true damage based on maximum health over 3 seconds. Enemy champions who fall below a certain total health threshold while burning are killed instantly.
- Draconic training (passive) – The more Smolder uses Super Burning Breath, the more he accumulates charges that increase the damage dealt.
- W – Excuse me! Be careful of flu periods (and allergies). The Smolder’s sneeze it’s not exactly healthy, also because it’s made of fire and flames. This deals damage and slows enemies affected by this adorable dragon nasal mucus.
- E – Vooooolareeee, oooohoooh. Smolder vola per 1,25 seconditime period in which he attacks the enemy with the lowest health.
- R – Tell mother, tell dragonlawyer. Smolder can ask for maternal assistance, one mother-dragon who rushes to breathe fire from the other. The flames slow enemies, deal damage and, if they hit Smolder, heal the little one.
Smolder will be available on PBE starting January 9, 2024. Riot Games also made it known that the next champion, whose name has not been revealed, will be announced soon. The official description released by the developer reads: “a solo lane, medium range vastaya mage as the next character”
League of Legends: all the news of the 2024 Season
Season 2024 promises to renew the League of Legends gaming experience, introducing new gameplay features, Arcane-inspired characters, changes to the Champion Mastery system.
First they will arrive improvements to the ranked system. Riot Games’ stated goal is to “reduce situations where a player is paired with someone of a vastly different skill level.” A balance that in the new season will also be applied to how many PLs are lost compared to those gained.
A substantial change to the health system will also arrive by the first half of 2024 Champion Mastery. Finally, after requests from the community, the Vanguard system is coming to League of Legends. This will help mitigate cheaters and bots in matches, allowing matches to be stopped and LPs refunded in matches with/against detected cheaters.
League of Legends: the new game modes of the 2024 Season
Officially returns Arena mode, but with some new features. First of all, the teams increase to 8 (each made up of 2 players), for a total of 16 players in the game. In light of this news, a new graphic interface will arrive (as well as updates to the maps and facilities). It will arrive andn the first half of the year.
Also announced a mysterious new mode. Riot Games hasn’t revealed too many details about it, other than that it will “offer a different take on the core LoL gameplay and be a more relaxed way to spend time with friends.” This new mode should arrive during the second half of 2024.
Champion Update
An update will arrive within the first half of the year for Skarner. This will affect both the aesthetics and gameplay of the champion. Subsequently Riot Games will focus on two other updates: Skarner (which will have renewed gameplay) e an unspecified character present in Arcane (the update will make it more similar to the Netflix series counterpart).
New aspects will also arrive during the 2024 Season Rammus e Olaf. The prestige skins of the first half of 2024 will be reserved for Friends, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn e Kayle (in this specific order).
Finally, Riot Games has made it known that they are working on a line of new aspects of Lee Sin, announcing that its Arts and Sustainability Update (ASU) will be available to players in early May. However, what was announced seems to take some time ASU di Teemowhich may not arrive soon.
Moon Festival: The First Event of 2024 and Patches 14.3 and 14.4
The Moon Festival, the first League of Legends event of the year, a new skin line called Celester Roar is coming. Not only that, the event will also see the return of the Porcelain theme. In particular, patches 14.3 and 14.4 will introduce the following aspects:

When does League of Legends Season 2024 start?
The season will officially begin on January 10, 2024the day on which a new movie in the style of The Call, Ruination and Warriors will be released.
eSports: how does the competitive aspect of LoL change?
Important news is also arriving for League of Legends eSports, including changes for the qualifiers for two of the most prestigious international tournaments: the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship (World Cup). Starting in 2024, the team that triumphs in the MSI will get not only glory, but also a guaranteed place at the World Cup. This extra seat will represent a significant advantage for the region of origin of the winning team. In addition, the region that finishes second during the MSI will be eligible for an additional Worlds slot.
For the 2024 Season, the LEC, LCS, LCK and LPL leagues will each have three slots available to access the World Cup. The leagues PCS e VCS will keep two slots for each, while LLA and CBLOL they will continue to have only one slot each.
MSI 2024 will take place from May 1st to May 19th in Chengdu, Chinawhile i World Cup 2024 will be held from September 25th to November 2nd. The qualifying phases will be played in Riot Games Arena in Berlinthe quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place in‘Adidas Arena in Parisand the grand final will be celebrated in O2 Arena in London.
League of Legends Hall of Fame announced
Finally, to honor those who have left an indelible mark on the world of League, the Hall of Legends dell’eSport di LoL.
