Posting photos and videos on social media means making them visible to all our followers. What if it wasn’t so? Instagram would be testing a feature called “Flipside“, which allows you to create a grid of content accessible only to our “Close Friends” on the Meta social network.
An (almost) private space on Instagram: what is Flipside?
The new “Flipside” feature, currently in the testing phase, has as its main objective to allow users to create a secondary photo grid visible only to designated friends. A more advanced version of the existing privacy options, Flipside allows you to create a space to publish only for Close Friends. Today, you can choose to share each story or post only with those you know best. But Flipside would be a real alternative Instagram, where you can find all these more private posts.
Users can create a separate list of friends and decide whether publish on the main feed or on your Flipside. The latter will only be accessible to friends included in the specific list. Something that could be useful especially for influencers and public personalities. But what everyone could use: if you don’t want to share group photographs of your birthday with colleagues or superiors, you can do so.
The Flipside symbol, as Matt Navarra’s post on Threads shows, is a key. An element that underlines the fact that this function was created above all to protect your privacy.
The new feature looks really cool. But it may never officially see the light of day. Adam Mosseri head of Instagram, said the decision to launch Flipside will be based on user reactions in the coming weeks. The tests will therefore be decisive for the future of this functionality.
What do you think about it? Is this really something that improves online privacy, or just a feature you’ll never use? Let us know in the comments.
