Let’s get ready: 2023 is coming to an end and numbers and statistics regarding social platforms will go crazy.
We will talk about both which social networks were most loved and clicked on, and the content satisfaction rankings within each individual social network.
Preview what promises to be a TikTok hit, a Chinese platform that just this year ended up in the crosshairs of Europe and the United States due to strong doubts about the management of user data. And which in recent days, precisely in response to these doubts, announced that it had invested 12 billion euros to benefit the protection of the data of its European users.
Here’s the time, on the pages of its blog, TikTok publishes a balance sheet for 2023 in our country. Let’s find out how it went.
2023 is TikTok
TikTok’s 2023 balance sheet in Italy was published on the official blog on Wednesday 6 December. Complete with a high-sounding title (“The ordinary becomes extraordinary”) and the inevitable hashtag (#2023onTikTok).
In the article, an overall overview appears first and then a series of satisfaction rankings divided by topic.
TikTok: the 2023 budget
The numbers speak of a continuously growing global community, with 150 million users in Europe and more than 19.7 million in Italy.
It’s been a curious year, with Barbie attracting attention in the summer, and the explosion of a singular craze for the Roman Empire, which we told you about in an article.
Songs by Céline Dion and Mina have been rediscovered, and – to make sense of the title of the article that appeared on the TikTok blog – ordinary stories have gained prominence, such as that of NewMartina and Donato De Caprio, to which we will return.
Special mention for the #BookTok trend, which we covered, even added in April by the Treccani dictionary among the neologisms. 200 billion global views and 3 billion for #BookTokItalia, with 100% growth for both hashtags compared to 2022.
The rankings
The article then lists a series of top tens from different areas, which give a measure of how 2023 went for TikTok in Italy. Let’s limit ourselves to mentioning the first three positions of some sections.
Favorites For you
At the top of the For you section is the aforementioned @newmartina, i.e. Carmen Fiorito, who boasts more than 458 million views for the video in which she simply applies a cell phone film. A global success that led her to reach 7 million followers in just a few months and make her business flourish.
Inevitable second place for Khabi Lame, the most followed creator in the world with his 162 million followers, and third place for @munchkin.italia. Yes, them, the kittens that walk to the tune of some rap hits.
Hit e hitmakers
Few surprises regarding TikTok’s Italian musical hits in 2023.
Annalisa’s Mon Amour dominates the ranking and also takes second place with Bellissima. And it is followed by Italodisco of The Kolors, in third position.
And if we mentioned the hits, let’s do the same with the hitmakers, musicians capable of promoting their successes also through TikTok. First place for Jr Stit, second for Måneskin and third for Alfa.
Small & medium-sized businesses
This is how TikTok calls the category relating to creators who, thanks to a very rapid increase in followers, have seen the birth and growth of a new and probably unexpected business.
First position again for her, New Martina, followed by Donato De Caprioa delicatessen who asks customers the inevitable question: “With crumbs or without?”, a leitmotif that has become the name of his Milan and Naples sales point.
In third place @a.moreofficial, that is Camilla Clemente, a university student who, still eighteen, launched her own brand of clothes and accessories.
#ImparaConTikTok
Last, perhaps the most important classification, the one linked to culture and social issues.
First place, very obvious, for the aforementioned #BookTookItalia. This is followed by #LuccaCG23, the hashtag of Lucca Comics & Games, which in the 2023 edition saw TikTok as an entertainment partner.
Third and perhaps unexpected position for #Disability: in 2023 TikTok also proved to be the social network in which many people were able to tell their story, their disability, their diversity, their imperfections.
