Sony continues its roadmap in the release of the new PS Plus service, which will introduce three levels of subscription with numerous video games included in the catalog. In anticipation of that, several classic games are coming to PlayStation Store today, the ones we’ve all loved on PS1 and PSP.
The new classic games that have appeared on PlayStation Store
As we know, the new PlayStation Plus arrived today (May 23) on the Asian market. We will have to wait another month before landing in Europe, but in the meantime the PlayStation Store already presents some previews. In fact, the official page reveals the availability of the classic for PS1 Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and the PSP title Ridge Racer 2. The Oddworld game page reveals that the title will be packed with a number of new features, including “up-render, rewind, quick save and custom video filters“.
This means that PS1 games will have different resolutions than the originals designed for old TVs. In addition there is talk of at least three video filters: default, classic retro and modern. The retro classic aims to closely emulate the look of older CRT TVs, originally used to play PS1 games. In short, dear nostalgic readers: it will be fun.
A few weeks ago Sony had also announced that some PSP and PS1 games would benefit from improved user interfacesof the possibility of save anywhere in the game and even of a game rewind function. Details that all seem to have been confirmed by the information released on PlayStation Store. Users who have already purchased digital versions of any game on the revamped PlayStation Plus service will not need to buy them again.
Finally, remember that the re-release of the games for PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP will be added to the subscription service in the middle of each month. The number of titles added will vary from month to month.
