During the 25th birthday celebration event of the Age of Empires franchise, Microsoft announced that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV will be released in 2023. Both games will be available for Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One, included in the Game Pass catalog e anche in cloud gaming.
An announcement that is sure to delight those who love console strategy games. These titles are usually designed for the classic mouse + keyboard configuration. It is therefore likely that the Xbox versions will offer optimized controls, as we have also seen in the case of games such as Football Manager and the like. In this regard, the software house World’s Edge stated the following:
“We knew that bringing the complexity of RTS to the Xbox console was no easy task, one that should be approached with caution and thoughtfulness. Our development team went to great lengths to ensure an experience that, in addition to being enjoyable as a controller, was also optimized for running on Xbox. A new tutorial designed specifically for the input controller, paired with a new console user experience, will help novice gamers get closer to the game. We have also added a new AI that will help make the management of the resources in the game efficient and intuitive ”.

In reviewing Age of Empires IV our Daniele wrote:
“Age of Empires represents for us (and for the author of this review) the saga that made us the gamers we are today and Age of Empires IV is the chapter we’ve been waiting for. A return to the past but without forgetting the habits of contemporary players, they come together in a perfect mix of history, strategy and epic battles. Added to these are the classic skirmish modes and the now inevitable Art of War with interesting challenges for the most competitive players. In this regard, avi also expects a fantastic multiplayer mode with lots of ranked and a ranking system never so detailed. To all this, support for Mods will soon be addedwe can only imagine what awaits us! “
