Lucca Comics & (video) games one could say, with a 2022 edition that will present numerous video game-themed events and initiatives. Panels, interviews, gaming areas and of course eSports: this year the program is extremely busy, and there will be editorial news and immersive experiences, to the delight of the most die-hard fans and gamers.
Lucca Comics & Games 2022: all the appointments related to video games
CD PROJEKT RED: the popular Polish software house arrives in Lucca on the occasion of its 20 years of activity. To celebrate the fair, especially Villa Bottini, it will be the setting for the ‘Museum & Art Gallery’.
Cyberpunk: two interesting panels dedicated respectively to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Cyberpunk 2077. The two appointments will see the presence of Yoh Yoshinari (Chief Character Designer), Naoko Tsutsumi (Animation Producer), Saya Elder (Producer & Creative supervisor), Bartosz Sztybor (Writer of Cyberpunk Edgerunners), Martha Weiss (Concept Artist), Miles Tost (Acting Lead Level Designer), Pawel Sasko (Quest Director).
Eimer Noone
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: a concert dedicated to the songs from the game’s soundtrack. The event will be held on October 28 at the Palazzetto dello Sport. To perform the boys of the Italian Youth Orchestra of Fiesole, accompanied by the Polish folk metal band Percival Schuttenbach. There will be an exceptional guest conducting the orchestra: Eimer Noone, author of 26 film and video game soundtracks, including World of Warcraft. Eimear was the first woman ever to conduct the Academy Awards orchestra, and her music has reached over 100 million people in nearly 15 years.
Riot Games (re) will bring its League of Legends and VALORANT merch and activities to the event. Cosplay, make-up, esport and gaming sessions, all in the frame of the Ex Comic Museum.
Yoshitaka Amano – Japanese illustrator and character designer, famous both for animated films such as Vampire Hunter D and for having signed the logo and illustrations of the award-winning Final Fantasy series – will be present at the event as a Guest of Honor.
Nolan Bushnell
Atari celebrates 50 years and Lucca Comics & Games 2022 celebrates the company by hosting Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and named by Newsweek as “one of the 50 men who changed America”. Bushnell will be a guest on the opening day in a Twitch live on the festival channel; on the 29th he will participate in the panel “The evolution of videogames!”; on October 31 he will talk about his career during “Nolan Bushnell – the videogame legend”; finally, November 1st will be at the center of the “New Horizons” round table discussing the future of video games
Sony Interactive Entertainment Italia (PlayStation) will hold unspecified activities in Piazza Anfiteatro. Further details on this will be released in the coming days.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope: Davide Soliani – Creative Director di Ubisoft Milan and video game – will meet fans on October 28th. The video game will be present with a very high level exhibition organized inside the Casa del Executioner. In particular, the exhibition will be dedicated to the artwork related to the creation of the title.
Nintendo will bring a series of video games for Nintendo Switch to Lucca Comics & Games 2022. Some will be Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Mario Strikers: Battle League Football. The Nintendo stand in Piazza Bernardini will also be the meeting point for the main communities and all fans of the Pokémon world.
Indie: space also for numerous independent developers such as Trinity Team Games. The latter will tell us about the new video game dedicated to the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.
ESports and Metaverse competitions
The appointment with the competitive video games of Lucca Comics & Games 2022 passes through the Italian Esports Open. The competitions will take place inside the dedicated area in Piazza San Romano, called Esport Cathedral. In particular, gamers will compete in:
- Pokémon: a showmatch will be held on the brand’s historic and most loved titles.
- League of Legends: it begins with the Baolo Championship Series, an influencer competition led by the Paolocannone, and then continues with the Viewing Party of the League of Legends Worlds World Championship. It will then be the turn of the League of Legends Torment Circuit.
- Rocket League: tournaments and showmatches dedicated to football on wheels.
- VALUING: the final phases of the “Lucca in Range” tournament will be held.
Amateurs and professionals alike will also appreciate the brand new range of gaming PCs exhibited by Medion Erazer. All in the super-technological truck that is crossing Europe, which will stop for 5 days outside Porta Sant’Anna.
Among the themes also the Metaverse, between NFT and virtual reality. For the occasion, Lucca Comics & Games presents a dedicated thematic area called Cryptoverso. It is a physical space that includes “Multiverse of Metaverses”, a pilot project “Luccaverse”, with a series of meetings. The project aims to recall the duality between physical and digital and between analog and digital, through an immersive and interactive experience, but above all educational and informative for an audience of all ages.
