AMD announces that it has completed the acquisition of Xilinx, thus giving birth to the new leader in the field of high performance and adaptive computing. This acquisition is officially the largest in semiconductor history and unites two industry leaders with complementary product portfolios, customers and market expertise.
AMD and Xilinx: the wedding is official
Xilinx’s business will be AMD’s new Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group (AECG), led by former Xilinx CEO Victor Peng. The AECG division will continue to focus on adaptive FPGA and SoC productsas well as embedded product roadmaps for its target markets, now taking advantage of efficiencies of scale and the ability to offer a wider range of solutions, including CPUs and GPUs from AMD.

The acquisition offers multiple benefits, including:
- Increase in addressable TAM from $ 80 to $ 135 billion and expansion to new markets and customers
- Xilinx’s strategic partnerships in the wired and wireless communications, automotive, industrial, aerospace and defense, broadcasting, measurement and simulation and consumer markets complement AMD’s presence in the PC and data center markets.
- Expansion in Research and Development
- The acquisition brings further expertise in the research and development of advanced technologies, including innovative stacking and packaging technologies, chiplet and interconnect solutions, AI and domain-specific architectures, and advanced software platforms.
