The Guardia di Finanza blocked the activities of 32 web channels (Telegram, Instagram, Twitter or even websites disconnected from social networks) that have been seized following an operation linked to online piracy. This operation was carried out by the Special Goods and Services Unit of the Guardia di Finanza with the support of the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers – Fieg. The blocked network reached about 500,000 users, ready to pay for access to illegally disclosed content.

The 32 web channels identified, after several weeks of investigations, were closed. The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a file and made a request for seizure to the judge for preliminary investigations. Managers and providers affected by the provision have already been notified. The online anti-piracy operation of the Guardia di Finanza concerned a network of over 500,000 users. These channels unlawfully broadcast copyrighted digital content. The access to the contents took place through payment by the users. The piracy activity was therefore for profit.
