Android 15 Beta 1 arrives today on compatible Pixel smartphones, let's discover all the news of the latest update
It's finally here! The first public beta of Android 15 was released by Google at the beginning of April, as scheduledand owners of compatible Pixel smartphones can finally start testing the new features.
Android 15 Beta 1: what's new?
Compared to Developer Preview 2, Beta 1 introduces several new features and updates, including:
- Greater security for the mobile network: a new section dedicated to mobile network security allows you to receive notifications about risks and request encryption, with a possible slowdown of the connection.
- More privacy for Wi-Fi: a new section allows you to manage privacy settings for the Wi-Fi network, such as sharing the device name and randomizing the MAC address.
- Settings with renewed graphics: Android 15 settings sports a more modern look with a double header in the subsections.
- Official Weather Widget: a new weather widget, pre-installed on Pixels, offers several customization options.
- Choice of apps and default payments: new sections allow you to set the apps and payment services to be used by default.
Watch out for bugs!
As expected, since it is a beta, there is no shortage of bugs, which could affect the daily use of the device. Among the best known:
- Unable to change NFC settings: if deactivated before the update, digital payments will not be available.
- Problems with Picture-in-Picture: rotating the device could cause malfunctions.
- Errors during setup: Play Services crashes or problems adding accounts.
- Incompatibility with Unicode 15.1: some APIs do not work correctly.
How to install the update
La prima beta pubblica di Android 15 è disponibile per Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 e Pixel 8 Pro.
If you already have Android 14 QPR3 Beta:
- You will automatically receive an update notification.
- If you don't want to install beta 15, you can ignore the notification and wait for the stable release of Android 14 or 15.
If you don't have Android 14 QPR3 Beta:
- Sign up for the Android 15 beta program on the Google website.
- You will receive the update notification via OTA.
Important: installing beta 1 may cause stability issues. Make sure to take a full backup of your device before proceeding.
