In this new episode we will not talk about a real anime, but the style (or one of many) recalls one of these, following the wave of Japanese animation but intended for adults: the animated series we will talk about in this Anime Breakfast is Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

Today’s episode will be very particularbecause it is very similar to the oriental anime style, but this is only one of the many styles that this animated series has integrated within the episodes. Last time we did a review of Uncle from Another World, the first review of this column. Now, however, we want to propose to you something differentmove away a little from the East and move to the West, but always following that style of Japanese anime. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix and the first animated series for adults created by Ubisoft Film & Television. Without giving too much away, even if this series is not oriental, there’s a lot of anime stylewhich is why we absolutely recommend you get it, especially if you’re a fan of the Ubisoft video games.

Lots of Ubisoft characters | Anime Breakfast: Captain Laserhawk, the animated Ubisoft

Without spoiling too much, the animated series has as its protagonist Dolph Laserhawk, which gives the series its title. Laserhawk is a cyborgcreated by Eden, a technocracy that has revolutionized the world by making it super technological and enriching it with a lot of digital and virtual equipment. Laserhawk manages to escape from Eden together with her boyfriend Alex Taylor, who however betrays the protagonist at the very end of the first episode. The real story of the series begins right after this event which deeply hurt and infuriated the cyborg. After Alex betrays him, Laserhawk is captured and imprisoned in the Eden prison. Here the protagonist meets a new group made up of Bullfroga frog member of the Brotherhood of Assassins, Jadea journalist based on the protagonist of Beyond Good & Evilwith Pay’j, a pig hybrid who becomes Jade’s adoptive uncle, also based on the Good & Evil character of the same name. Watching a video game | Anime Breakfast: Captain Laserhawk, the animated Ubisoft

As we have already said, there is in this animated series very anime style, starting with the design of the characters, their expressions, the manga-style shots and the behavior of the characters typical of anime. But it’s not just this, it’s much more. Watching this series, in fact, is a bit like watch gameplay of a video game and the genres are truly varied. The cutscenes, which change depending on the situation, show a shootout, the choice of areas of a map, the crossing of a dungeon and much more. All of this going back to arcade video gameswith the style of Megaman, Pokemon, visual novel and so on. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is not just an animated series, it is a real video game, with the only difference that in this case you just watch the video game, without interacting with it with a controller.

This aspect is one of those that most strikes those who decide to look at it, especially if you are a lover of video games. But not only are there these intermission scenes that pay homage to arcade video games (but also those of today). Ubisoft, in fact, He uses his characters well which he inserted into this animated series and does it in style, throwing in some goodies from the video games of origin of all the characters. To begin with, for example, Markus Holloway he has aged, become wiser and more stoic, evolving since his youthful version in Watch Dogs 2. Or again, the same story of Sara Fisher tells a true continuation of Splinter Cell. Also Raymanwho here is a predominantly comic character (but towards the end of the season has his dose of seriousness), continues his story starting from the fact that he is a alien from another planettogether with Rabbids. This animated series takes all the Ubisoft characters and combines them into oneone great work.

Long live freedom! | Anime Breakfast: Captain Laserhawk, the animated Ubisoft

With everything we’ve said so far, with lots of cameos, lots of action, lots of violence and lots of bloodat the end of the fair this animated gem also launches a strong political message. As we have already said, in this world Eden forms a real technocracyThis organization transforms the entire world, making it ultra technological and with latest generation electrical devices, creating a mondo cyberpunk. It seems that Eden has done great things and has made society evolve a lot, but in reality there is a great and painful truth: Eden wants to control everything. This means that Eden rules over everything and any failure to obey is punished with death. This is very reminiscent of the fascisma company apparently well built and founded on sound principles, but in reality hides something rotten.

Not only that, Eden it even exploits its own resources, deluding them into believing they are on the right side. The truth is completely different, Eden is the evil of society. Among the various crimes that this large, multibillion-dollar organization has committed are millions of victimsincluding even childrenand Ubisoft doesn’t limit itself on them either. It shows all the cruelty in the world, without making any exceptions and showing us the injustice that a society based on control does not lead to anything good. Indeed, what Eden does is something truly inhumanecapable of disturbing even the most sensitive, especially if we remember that, unfortunately, these things also happen in our reality.

WARNING: YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WATCH THIS PROGRAM

This title is not just an ironic way to invite you to watch this series, it is the message that Eden sends before broadcasting its programs. This is further proof that, in addition to the spectacular violence of the fight scenes, the anime animated style and the homages to video games, there’s a lot of politics, although, we want to point out, it is not heavy at all. The political message is there, but you get there by looking at the various ones cruel scenarios that we find within the series, including the horrors of war, mass extermination and concentration camps. These are very heavy issues which Captain Laserhawk: Blood Dragon Remix makes light, however inviting us to reflect on how to found a society based on healthy principles.

We have reached the end of the episode this time too. With this, we absolutely advise you to recover this animated series that you find on Netflix. Stay with us on TechGameWorld.com for don’t miss the next episode, always on Sunday at 8!
