Apple prepares to to review its range of iPad in 2024 with the aim of making the selection less complex and increase the sales. Apple wants to highlight the distinctions between the various devices, making it easier to choose the right tablet for you.
Apple aims to simplify its iPad lineup
Apple expert Mark Gurman writes on Bloomberg that the complexity of the iPad line has emerged over time. At first, there were only two main models: a large one and a small one. Over the years, however, Apple has introduced a variety of options, adding versions of low enda series Air Of high end and models Pro more powerful, true alternatives to computers.
In this way, to date Apple markets five main types of iPad: Pro, Air, Mini and the ninth and tenth generations of the basic iPad. Among these models, there are differences read in screen size e characteristics similar. Which makes it difficult for less experienced users to choose.
For example, the current 11-inch iPad Pro is slightly larger than the iPad Air, with negligible differences for most users. At the same time there are substantial price differences between iPad and iPad Air, but for many users it is not clear what the differences are.
The situation becomes further complicated with the large selection of accessorieswhere it is often unclear which ones are compatible with the various iPad models.
To clarify
As a result, Gurman reports that Apple is now working to streamline its iPad offering, as it did with its line of MacBook. Which are only two types (Air and Pro) with different screen sizes and chips.
Apple plans to take a similar approach to simplify its iPad lineup. For starters, the company aims to reduce confusion between the iPad Pro and Air. The Pro will have a screen OLEDa renewed design, a chip M3 it’s a Magic Keyboard new: there will be no doubt that it is the high-end model.
The dimensions are also different. The iPad Air will be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch configurations, while the Pro will be offered in 11- and 13-inch options. A minimal difference, but capable of avoiding confusion at the Apple Stores.
The iPad Air will clearly be positioned as a mid-range option compared to the Pro, with one processor M2. It will sit above the 10th generation model, which won’t receive significant updates until the more distant future (and will have A-series chips, like iPhones).
With the introduction of the 11th generation iPad, Apple will phase out the ninth generation model, which has a Home button and wide frames. The iPad mini will also get a later update, getting a faster processor. Eliminating the ninth generation model will allow Apple to retire some of the older models Apple Pencilfurther simplifying the range.
Apple perhaps would like to simplify the iPad range by focusing on Pro e Air, but it needs to maintain a more model accessible for the education market, which otherwise risks surrendering entirely to Google and its Chromebooks. So Gurman believes that in the near future the categories will remain the same, but there will be greater distances between them.
