October isn’t over yet, and Apple may have an unexpected announcement to close the month: new updates for its Mac devices, especially the launch of a iMac con chip M3. In fact, two and a half years have passed since the last time Apple updated its “all-in-one” computer with the M1 chip. And it seems that these last days of October could be the good ones.
Apple: iMac with M3 chip arriving by the end of October?
According to Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is planning a “Mac-focused product launch” at the end of October. This announcement is expected for October 30th or 31sta kind of Halloween special for those who love technology.
The 24-inch iMac should take center stage for this event. An overdue update: We haven’t seen an update for the iMac in over 900 days. Gurman suggests that the new iMac could have an M3 chip.
The update isn’t expected to revolutionize Apple’s computer lineup. Users appreciated the thin 11.5 mm thick line, with the different colors seen as a distinctive sign. The 24-inch diagonal for the display will also remain. The only big news comes from the M3 chip, which should improve performance but above all reduce energy consumption.
More Mac updates
Reports of low iMac supplies at Apple stores reported by Gurman appear to confirm this update. And the same logic applies to limited supplies of 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Prowhich may indicate upcoming updates.
For the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, however, we must consider the January release of the models with the M2 Apple Silicon chip. So a new version with the M3 chip could only arrive in the future. Furthermore, it seems that the OLED displays of the new models are not yet ready for launch.
So, Gurman doesn’t expect any significant changes in upcoming MacBooks in addition to internal updates. But it suggests that the next big change will come with a new iMac Pro in 2025, followed by an OLED MacBook Pro in 2026 with improvements in design and functionality.
Although it comes from one of Apple’s top experts, this information remains unconfirmed. Product out-of-stocks or long waits for setup they are not reliable indicators that something new is on the way. Such situations can be influenced by various factors, including demand and supply chain. Another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuoseems to think that new MacBooks and the 24-inch iMac wouldn’t arrive until 2024 at the earliest.
So nothing is certain. But we’ll be watching closely for early next week: Apple may be holding a Mac-focused product launch.
