The total number of shipments of A15 Bionic for Apple exceeds i 100 million, according to CnBeta. Although the report claims these shipments are destined for the iPhone 13 series, it is possible that Apple will keep an extra stock for upcoming devices intended to use this chipset. One of them is the redesigned iPad mini 6, which is expected to be unveiled later this year.
For 2022, a previous report stated that Apple would use the A15 Bionic to power the next-generation iPhone SE. However, initial chip shipments will largely be reserved for the iPhone 13 range, as the next four models are expected to be sold in droves.
In terms of the number of CPU cores, the A15 Bionic and A14 Bionic will have no differences. Just like its predecessor, Apple’s next-generation processor will catch up a total of six cores, two of which are designed for performance, while the remaining four focus on energy efficiency. However, TSMC’s manufacturing process will be an advanced 5nm variant, meaning the new chip could offer improved performance while contributing to battery life.
Speaking of battery life, the next chipset will have to do an amazing job on this front as both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will have scholar OLED LTPO, thus having the ability to dynamically change their refresh rate fino a 120Hz.
A 120Hz display will decrease battery life, so we expect the A15 Bionic to play a major role in efficiency.
