Apple today released the first macOS 12.1 beta after the official launch of macOS Monterey earlier this week. Now Apple has confirmed that macOS 12.1 beta reactivates the feature SharePlay for FaceTime users, however, the long-awaited feature Universal Control remains undelivered and should arrive by the end of this fall.
Apple maOS 12.1: SharePlay is back but not Universal Control
SharePlay was announced at WWDC 2021 in June as part of the new features in iOS 15 and macOS Monterey. This feature allows users to share songs, videos or even their own screens while on a call FaceTime. For some unknown reason, SharePlay was removed from iOS 15 and macOS 12 after some betas.
Fortunately, the feature is now back for all iPhone and iPad users the version of iOS 15.1 and soon Mac users will also be able to use SharePlay. In a note to the developers, Apple explained that SharePlay was also reactivated in the beta of macOS 12.1, consequently it is possible to update your own apps that foresee the support of the new functionality.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Universal Control: The long-awaited feature that allows users to wirelessly control an iPad, or even another Mac, using their primary computer’s keyboard and mouse is not yet available in macOS 12.1 beta.
Universal Control was never included in beta versions of macOS Monterey, but Apple has confirmed that the feature will be available by the end of the fall. So we just have to wait and hope for a great return soon. In any case, according to the company’s indications, we shouldn’t have to wait that long.
