It now seems almost certain that a viewer Apple dedicated to augmented reality and virtual reality is in development, although it has not yet been officially announced by the company. According to the insider Mark Gurman, Apple would just take over Andrea Schubert, previously employed at Meta, in which he occupied the position of head of communications and public relations for augmented reality, a rumor that leaves little doubt about the intentions of the Cupertino company and its alleged VR viewer.
Apple: rumors about the VR headset continue
In short, with Schubert’s recent hiring it now seems clear that Apple is working hard on this phantom viewer, which according to various rumors should arrive during the 2022, even if at the moment in Cupertino everything is silent.
According to the information that has emerged so far, the Apple device should capitalize on the teaching of Oculus Quest 2 and therefore propose a type of virtual reality completely generated by computer. However, some have recently emerged as well rumor according to which this device should also support a form of augmented reality, with digital graphics capable of overlapping real elements.
As if that were not enough, the headset should work thanks to a proprietary chip from Apple, probably one of those currently in development at Apple Silicon. But it does not end there, because the technology giant could also be working on another augmented reality device, this time more similar to what is seen with the Google Glass and which should arrive by 2023.
When will it be announced?
As usual, it is practically certain that Apple will not announce the viewer until it is ready to distribute it, but the information we have about it is starting to be too much to think that it is an unfounded rumor. On the other hand, Schubert’s assumption seems almost one implicit confirmation that something is actually boiling in the pot.
It is probably no coincidence in this regard that Team Cook, current CEO of the company, has repeatedly remarked how much he is a fan of augmented reality, which according to him is able to drastically improve the performance of each of us. Some such features have reached iPhones and iPads over the past few years and it would be in full Apple spirit to move towards something more sophisticated.
The last time Apple launched a completely new product on the market was in 2015 with Apple Watch, so the time is certainly ripe for a new entry in the company’s lineup.
It is impossible not to mention the analyst at this point Ming-Chi Kuo, who stated that Apple’s VR headset is set to replace the iPhone in about a decade; a goal that according to him would be possible precisely by virtue of a computing power that will not make us regret that of the iPhone.
Strong words, which we are curious to find out if they will translate into reality.
