The world of videogames in Africa is about to reach new levels: here are all the conditions that are favoring the development of the market.
Africa and videogames: all the conditions are in place for a boom in the sector
Perhaps not everyone is aware of it, but Africa is the youngest region in the world. Indeed 60% of the continent’s population is under 25 years oldand the UN provides that by 2030, the African youth population will increase by 42%. Consequently, there is a greater focus on technology: disposable incomes increase e high-speed internet connections also proliferate. The continent is expected to have more than 680 million mobile phone users by the end of 2025, resulting in an increase in the number of mobile gamers. Currently, in the whole region, 177 million (or 95% of gamers) use mobile devices. A sum of data that results in a single total: Africa is the fastest growing region for mobile game downloads. Hypothesis also confirmed by the analysis of the research company App Annie.
Among the most interesting development companies we can certainly mention Night Games (Kenya) e Leti Arts (Ghana). Peralto, as the first gaming studio in Ghana (2009), Leti Arts uses NVIDIA GPU to create mobile games based on African history and folklore. But that’s not all: in January, the South African startup Carry1st raised $ 20 million from major investors such as Andreesen Horowitz and Google. The goal is to create a platform for publishing mobile games for the African market. The timing couldn’t be better.
