Wizards of the Coast recently released Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gatel’last set of the most popular trading card game in the world: Magic: The Gathering. The new set further expands and innovates the Limited format integrating the iconic characters and thrilling mechanics of the popular RPG Dungeons & Dragons.

The latest chapter of Commander Legends offers more freedom than ever for players to allow them to create your own story down to the smallest detail. Battle for Baldur’s Gate, in fact, breaks the rule Singleton of the traditional Commander and allows you to include two or more copies of the same card in one deck.
Backgrounds cards and the Initiative ability
Some RPG elements from D&D are also present in Backgrounds, a new type of spell. The legendary cards Backgrounds they represent the story that brought your Commander to where you find him; in addition, each of these gives him a bonus.
For D&D veterans, the initiative is undoubtedly important, and it will be so in the Battle for Baldur’s Gate as well. Initiative is the new key skill that activates three important bonuses:
- Whenever a player takes the initiative he ventures into Undercity (a new dungeon card).
- The player with the initiative ventures back into Undercity at the start of his upkeep;
- Many cards in the set improve if you have initiative.
Finally, the second set of Commander Legends sees the return of the frames of the Rulebook. Each Legendary Creature card has a frame that echoes the look and feel of the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Handbookevoking the classic rulebook aesthetic so loved by board game fans.
