Yes, you read that correctly. And no, we didn’t get the title wrong. The Dyson Zone they are actually headphones for air purification.
The British company thus enters the world of wearable devices, with a pair of over-ear headphones that see the light after 6 years of research and 500 prototypes.
“Air pollution is a global problem – it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and while we travel, on foot, by bicycle or by public or private transport. Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the go. Unlike face masks, it delivers a stream of purified air without any contact with the face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air ducts. After six years of development, we are thrilled to ensure purified air and high quality audio wherever you are, ”he explained Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer of the company.
Dyson Zone: headphones, purifier, mask?
Dyson’s is undoubtedly an unusual product. It is about headphones for air purification with compressors positioned on the sides of the headphones capable of suck in the outside air and purify it through double-layer filters. Two purified air streams are then projected through the visor towards the nose and mouth, thanks to a design that avoids any contamination dictated by external cross winds.
The Dyson Zones, however, also allow you to listen to music, thanks to a high performance neodymium electroacoustic system inside each auricle. Dyson therefore promises a quality sound experience, associated with a noise cancellation system that eliminates both ambient noise and that generated by the engine. Plus consumers can count on large angled pads, which mold around the listener’s earwith a foam density and headband clamping force designed for comfort and optimal noise reduction.
Dyson engineers then took inspiration from the saddle of a horse to create a product capable of distributing weight on the sides of the head rather than on the top.
The importance of collaboration
The Dyson Zone air purification headphones were designed by teams across the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and China. A shared effort that involved not only the development of the hardware but also the software. In fact, to accompany the product we find an application, designed to ensure an efficient connection and provide intelligent and meaningful functions for monitoring air and noise pollution.
The British company then focused a lot on the test phase, devising innovative solutions and testing the product in all climatic conditions.
