The European Union had been clear: o Twitter reviews its content moderation process, eliminating violent posts and fake news, or the platform will be banned in Europe.
So for once it is Elon Musk to be in check, and given the waters in which the blue social network currently navigates, it is better to take action and quickly.
Twitter moderation will be entrusted to bots
According to Reuters, Elon Musk’s new plan is to entrust the moderation of content to Artificial Intelligence (AI) through bots. A practically obligatory move, given that the wave of layoffs a few weeks ago had taken away from Twitter about 80% of the workforce engaged in content moderation. In the meantime, a doubt begins to creep among the experts: what if it was all a plan concocted by Musk to try to weaken the current standard of moderation? In any case, hypotheses aside, the new system will not include natural persons.
According to Reuters, the AI, rather than blocking content deemed offensive and violent, will simply try “not to promote” it. The bot will tend to hide dangerous hashtags and not to highlight posts about controversial topics (such as gender-based violence or child abuse).
A maneuver that it could prove utterly counterproductive, as it would also block the posts of associations dedicated to debates on these issues. Indeed, the AI it would recognize words and hashtags, certainly not the overall meaning of a tweet.
